Just a question for those of you with KitchenAid mixers. My DH is out and about on the busiest shopping day of the year trying to find my birthday present. It's obviously not a surprise since he needed to know so many details about the mixer but I'm running into a problem. I've found a mixer that I want which is a 450 watt, Accolade but my Mother in law just called and found one at Sam's club that might be comparable but doesn't have a tilt head. I've never used these before so I dont know if that is needed or not. Does the tilt head make a big difference? If you were going to buy a Mixer today what would you buy and why?
The KA mixer I saw at Sam's two days ago was a KA Pro5, which does not have the tilting head but rather the lift bowl. It was $260, if memory serves correctly.
If I were buying one today (and I own both the 4.5qt tilt-head and the 5 qt lift bowl), I would go with the bigger one.
Forgot to mention...I just saw this on SlickDeals.net earlier: Accolades for $180 shipped.
I have the tilt-head, but have used the lift-bowl style ... if it's bigger/more powerful - GO FOR IT!!
The lift-bowl style takes a little getting used to, but it's no big deal after a couple of uses.
The bigger, professional-style KAs ONLY come with the lift-bowl, and I know that it does a better job of reaching the very bottom of the bowl than the tilt ones do.
the following is an edit to actually try to answer the question instead of rambling on ...
If I were to buy one right now, it would be the BIGGEST, MOST POWERFUL one I could fine, whihc would automatically make it a lift-bowl style, and that would be fine by me!
After having used a tilt head for a few years..I got comfortable with that BUT now that I have the kind with the lever..I would never go back. Grant it...I still use them both, the the larger one with the lever is my favorite! In other eords, go with the bigger one!
It's HERE!!! My mother in law just stopped over with my brand new mixer. She was on the phone when I posted my question and at the store debating with me over which was the one to get and I think she got the right one.
It's a 5 quart Professional HD, bowl lift mixer. It has an auto shut off if the motor starts to overheat so I won't fry it out and I'm so so so excited to get something baked tonight. LOL!
Thanks for the advice. Going to go play with my new toy. Talk about HEAVY!
Have fun...I couldn't use my new mixer enough when I first got it!
Congrats to you! You're going to love it, I'm sure!
Mine is the lift bowl also I just inherited and I love it!
