So tonight I make up a batch of buttercream frosting tihnking I would try my hand at making roses. Well several baby cabbages later, I am still thinking that roses are tough to make....but from what I hear it takes practice upon practice....

So I thought I would show my CC family what my forst attempt looked like...

The picture is a bit fuzzy, but I see nothing wrong with it. Keep up the practice!

Looks pretty good from my point of view too! It does take practice--first to get the technique and then to get some speed. Keep it up!

After 6 months I think i finally got these done too...i use dream whip icing and right out of the fridge...

I think your rose looks great! I still can't seem to get mine to look like roses....just cabbages...

Here's a "helpful" hint that I had from one of my wilton instructors and it made making the buttercream roses SO much easier in my opinion. Instead of leaning the top of your tip back farther away from the the petal, to open them up as you go to the next row, well, start your center and first row of petals like you normally would, with your tip up at 12:00, then when you start your second row turn the top of your tip slightly to 1:00, instead of leaving it at 12 and tilting it back farther. Turn it to 2:00 to finish off your last row. It's much easier and the bottom of your tip isn't hitting against the flower nail making it harder to get the bottom row done right, that's what I had the most trouble with, there never seemed to be enough room to tilt the tip back far enough to open up the last row of petals! I never had any problems making them after I starting using that technique thumbs_up.gif Good Luck! Gale

Have you considered using the 54 tip? It is a curved rose tip. I use this and they look more natural. I started doing this soon after I began making roses, and the results make me happier!!

Yes, that makes nice roses also! They come out a little smaller I think, but their very pretty with that tip

No, the roses are the same size using tip 54.

This summer I experimented with how To get rid of the cabbage effect LOL... I added some piping gel to my stiff icing and ended up with some beautiful looking rose.
