I just tried to order 1 cookie cutter from kitchengifts.com, 1 measly little cutter for $9.95 USD. I was okay with the rate of exchange and so forth and according to PayPal it was going to cost me about $21 CAD. Okay, fine. I just got an email from kitchengifts asking me to pay yet ANOTHER $30.80 USD and they would ship to me. WHAT?!? icon_eek.gif I called them and they said yep, that is the going rate.

That is just crazy!!! So, needless to say, I asked that my order be cancelled. Wow!!! I have ordered many items from the US and never have I had to pay that much! I'm so disappointed, it was a really cool formula one cutter too! icon_cry.gif

Yup...... icon_eek.gif I've had my friend in Tennessee accept many items and I pay her regular shipping from there!! This is what I mean..I think sometimes these companies take advantage of foreign orders that way.

What cookie cutter are you trying to get? I want one, maybe two from there and right now if I order two the shipping to me is free. I sell a little on eBay. Maybe we can work something out. I would only cover my costs, no outrageous fees like they seem to be charging you. I have shipped to UK and Canada before and know it doesn't cost that much extra!!

did you know you can make your own template if you only need to bake a batch or so from cardboard and a sharp knife..

Make some sell some and let it earn the 30 bucks to buy it..

lol

I'd be willing to help you too. I could order it for you, and ship it to you directly. I'd only charge you for my costs. Let me know. : )

kerririchards Posted 15 Nov 2005 , 7:30pm

I also make a lot of my own cookie cutters out of transparency paper (like you use for overhead projectors) and cut out the cookie with a sharp knife. It doesn't break down after cutting out many cookies. I just wash them and keep them in a file for future use.

Kiddiekakes Posted 15 Nov 2005 , 7:56pm

I've made homemade templates for cookies also!! It works great! You may want to try that.

wendysue Posted 15 Nov 2005 , 8:21pm

kerririchards,
Love your site! Just bookmarked it to my favorites. I really like your basket of roses sheetcake. : )

Cake_Princess Posted 15 Nov 2005 , 8:29pm

I own ONE cookie cutter. All my other cookies I cut out from a piece of cardboard/paper and a knife. My rosebud Cookies were not made with a cookie cutter just a knife and some paper

Waidaminit... $9.95 US on Paypal, according to their converter, is $11.57 CND. How does that become $21 CND? Is that adding the site's own shipping charges?

And I'd be careful about even that final total they ask for, since there's also going to be duty and broker fees one the package hits the border.

I just got a $30US item shipped up and the duty+ charge was another $10 or 30% more!! So the "good deal" on the $25US Wilton 52 pc tips set (plus a very reasonable $5 shipping) ended up not being a very great deal after all at a total of about $45CND. It also took 3 weeks to get here. I could have bought it cheaper and immediately at Michaels with a 40% off coupon.

Hey everyone, thanks so much for the more than generous offers! I must say that has blown me away. Your kindness in offering to help is...just so nice! Thank you!

The only reason I ordered just the 1 cutter was because it was a very unique formula 1 design, I have not found one like it anywhere else at all. It kinda looks like the car is coming at you rather than a side view. In retrospect I can make it with my own template and probably will. icon_rolleyes.gif $9.95 USD is kinda expensive but hubby was all for it so why not? That doesn't happen very often! icon_wink.gif

Funny thing is I ordered a whole bunch of cutters from Golda's just yesterday, mostly Christmas and some for Valentines Day. They did not have this particular car though....oh well. So I will do the template, I should have thought of that first! icon_redface.gif

Thanks again everyone, you truly are a wonderful group of people!icon_smile.gif

I have found the same thing. It is so discouraging trying to stock up on supplies; as American suppliers seem to have such a good selection, but the shipping, taxes and duty are killers.

kerririchards Posted 16 Nov 2005 , 12:57pm

I would be willing to bet that if you talked to customer service at your favorite bakery supply they would try to order a cutter that they don't have in stock.

peanut2 Posted 16 Nov 2005 , 1:44pm

I will have to find a new one. The one in our area closed down in October, and the closest one I'm aware of is over 1 hour away.

charleydog Posted 16 Nov 2005 , 1:47pm

peanut..

The same thing goes for you, if you need something picked up and mailed to you let me know!!! I am so close to both of the previosly mentioned suppliers...

tripletmom, your welcome for the offer, no problem on my part I am always happy to help out if I can. I get so irritated at situations like this. It really isn't very hard at all the ship to another country. Their are a few forms you fill out but basically that is all the extra work it takes. When I was selling a bit on ebay, I always had people amazed at how little I charged for shipping. I as so SHOCKED to find out how much people overcharge others just because they can I guess. Sorry rambling, just boils my blood, LOL!!

I am sure you can make what you need and it will turn out great. I did find the one you are looking for, looks like the race car is coming at ya. They have a realty sign I want from there but I just can't see all that money for one cookie cutter even if the shipping if free to the US now and I REALLY don't care to give them my business.

Take care and better luck at another site!

peanut2 Posted 16 Nov 2005 , 6:09pm
