I just wanted to share this with you all. I was at the fruit market Friday and the cashier and I were talking and the topic of cake came up and I told her I did cake decorating and she got really excited and wanted to know if I would make her a Thanksgiving cake and of course I told her I would. But what she said next blew me away, here I was thinking turkey and she said Flamingo, yep she wants a cake with a Flamingo on it and said if I could make her one that this would really make her Thanksgiving, it's just funny what make people happy, thanks for listeningicon_smile.gif

You are right...that is a very strange request. However...for the weekend after Thanksgiving I will be doing a cake that looks like a cockroach! icon_smile.gif

I know...that is exactly what I was thinking. And the strange thing is that it is for a 4 year old girl's birthday party. That is the last thing my daughter would have wanted...she was totally into the princess pink stuff!!!

That is very strange! Why would a 4YO want a cockroach...ewwww! I guess I have no room to talk. My oldest (13 in a few weeks) wants PooPoo cupcakes for his birthday. They're to go along with a Stewy cake who will be in a diaper icon_confused.gif . Where did I go wrong...LOL! I don't even let him watch the show (Family Guy)!!!

My 4 year old daughter is into bugs! I have the author Eric Carle to thank for that. She has nearly all is books. Her favorite is The Very Clumsy Click Beetle. I made my first cupcake cake and FBCT from the character.

I think it's strange too. Did she say why a flamingo made her think Thanksgiving? Just curious icon_smile.gif Maybe it's a family story. I like to do that sometimes with my cakes...tie them into a funny family memory.

irisinbloom Posted 13 Nov 2005 , 4:27am

Lisa, she didn't say why, but I am curious now so I think when she picks it up I will ask her, all I know is when I told her I could do that for her she was really excitedicon_smile.gif

irisinbloom Posted 23 Nov 2005 , 11:37pm

Well this is the Flamingo cake I was telling you all about that the lady wanted for Thanksgiving. She said that she collects Flamingo's and even has a tatoo on her ankle of one, so go figureicon_smile.gif

Cute flamingo cake!!!!
Cock roach?..... sounds like something my 5 yr old daughter would request. She wants to be an entemologist( bug scientist) when she grows up. She LOVES bugs!

llee815 Posted 23 Nov 2005 , 11:50pm

Great cake!

cakefairy18 Posted 24 Nov 2005 , 2:54am

Great cake, she had to like it...she's a collector...she probably didnt want to cut into it, just save it in her flamingo collection...

traci Posted 24 Nov 2005 , 3:06am

The flamingo cake looks great. thumbs_up.gif

I will be decorating the cocroach cake this weekend. I was going to make one big cockroach using my oval pans...but was having trouble getting a fat enough cake board. So I decided to do a 1/2 sheet cake with an edible image of a cockroach and another small cake that will be shaped like a cockroach. This is the best I can come up with. My daughter was so grossed out when we were looking for an image. Anyway...I will post pics soon. Hope I do not gross all of you out.! icon_wink.gif

SquirrellyCakes Posted 24 Nov 2005 , 4:36am

The "pink turkey" cake looks wonderfully done, haha, go figure, but you made a customer happy and that is the main thing. Very cute! As for the roach cake, well I give you credit, I don't think I could do it without nightmares and the "heebeegeebees"!

Great job on your flamingo cake~

traci Posted 27 Nov 2005 , 3:16am

Well...here is the finished product of the cockroach cakes. I really hate the 3D cockroach...looks more like a brown ladybug!!!! icon_lol.gif

Squirrellycakes...hope that doesn't give you the heebeegeebees!!!! icon_wink.gif

That would make it really gross. icon_lol.gif

Cheese...I wonder what everyone will think???? icon_confused.gif I am still trying to decide if I should give her some business cards!!! icon_rolleyes.gif

Ewwwh, they both give me the heebeegeebees, haha! Let us hope that was the first time Chuck E. Cheese had cockroaches! Excellent job on the cakes!

Thanks! I am glad the lady is coming to my house to pick them up...I really would not want to deliver those!!!! icon_smile.gif

I guess the next kind of strange thing I will have is an armadillo groom's cake for a wedding in December. I guess the gross part is that the cake will be red velvet...makes me sick just thinking about it!!!! icon_razz.gif

SquirrellyCakes Posted 27 Nov 2005 , 4:32am

Hhmn Traci, you do get weird orders, haha, is there a message? icon_wink.gificon_evil.gificon_eek.gificon_surprised.gificon_biggrin.giftapedshut.gif

You know...I have been wondering why all these people come to me with all this crazy stuff. Probably because they can't find anyone else that will do it!!!! icon_wink.gif

SquirrellyCakes Posted 27 Nov 2005 , 4:39am

So you are becoming the Weird Cakes Cake Lady of Houston? Haha, don't knock it, there is most definitely a market for it, you must be impressing people, you keep getting orders for unusual cakes. You know, I don't think I could do a bug cake, I would be too busy scratching, haha!
Hugs Squirrelly

traci Posted 27 Nov 2005 , 4:47am

I think this will be my last bug cake...I had nightmares of cockroaches last night!!!! icon_smile.gif

SquirrellyCakes Posted 27 Nov 2005 , 4:58am

Ooh, you poor thing, I think I would have too, I must say! Certain things really bother me and that is one. Hope you sleep better tonight!

CakemanOH Posted 27 Nov 2005 , 5:04am

I wouldn't worry about your cakes going to Chuck E Cheese. I am sure their roaches are bigger and scarier! icon_biggrin.gif
