Ice my cake in buttercream & "paste" fondant flowers all over it? The receipient of the cake I am making might not like all the fondant but I think a few perky flowers here & there will be ok....

Sure you canl.....Also,have you tried Royal Icing flowers???? I use them alot and think they're very pretty on buttercream..... You can make tons of them in advance and store them for future use.

YES it will look dumb! Just kidding, sorry icon_wink.gif I never cover my cakes in fondant and haven't had anyone request that, but then again I like to be able to use fondant, gumpaste or royal icing. So no it's not dumb at all! It will give it a 3D look! It's a great idea thumbs_up.gif

I just wasn't real sure how it would look as I am only in my 3rd set of Wilton classes & we work with fondant tonight for the first time...YIKES!!!!!!

..no, it won't look dumb at all! Lots of cakes are decorated this way!

I've done many of these before... to me nothing looks "dumb" at all... it's just being creative icon_biggrin.gif
