i'm using buddyvalastro 's vanilla cake recipe with vanilla mousse filling (heavycream and jello vanilla pudding mix together with hand mixer until it becomes thick)

It might be the jello vanilla pudding; some people can really taste when something artificial is used..others prefer the "artificial flavor". There are literally tons and tons of different recipes out there, search on here for a WASC and I'm sure you'd be able to find something that works for you, and has a more natural taste.

There are many, many versions of WASC; so everyone is different, but yes that's my preference.

Yes of course.  If I like it, for example I enjoy dense butter cakes without icing, like pound cake, so I keep that recipe and make it just for me.

Most others like a light soft cake, so there are recipes just for them, just the way they like it.
