AHere's another for you CCers! My first stacked cake. (Super ultra beginner) thanks!
I like the cake. I think decorators are always the hardest on themselves. I'm such an amateur so I always look back to see what I don't like, and then Google and YouTube ways to make it better for next time. I can see how the chevron pattern could be difficult. But if this is your first time applying that pattern, then kudos to you! This is just my personal preference, your daisy is great, but I would have added some type of (hopefully edible) shimmer to it. But that's because I like that look.
Great job!
This is a great idea! Here is the link to my gallery... http://cakecentral.com/g/u/947215/sha1col/
I'm open to any and all constructive criticism, tips, and advice :-)
Thanks in advance!
ALooks great to me, "Lfredden." I'm guessing that's a fondant covering; purely out of curiosity, what have you got between the fondant and the cake?
And "staziaface1790," yours looks as good as anything I've ever achieved, and is more ambitious than anything I've ever attempted.
James...
I'm new to CC, so I'm very late with my response. Anyway, good job with your cakes. As far as my opinion goes, there's nothing wrong with using the pre-made Wilton roses. But if you ever feel inspired, YouTube all the way! There's very good tutorial on there. I would suggest trying it right after watching the tutorial a couple of times. I've been taking the Wilton classes at a Michael's store near me, but I ALWAYS look at YouTube tutorial for different techniques that would fit my decorating style. I remember the first cake I decorated, I literally winged it, the only thing I looked up was how to make the baby booties (it was for a shower obviously). When you don't have any formal training or just lucky enough to be just that talented, you do your best and that makes it awesome! I do have a question though, I looked at your pics, you have cakes that have vertical lines in the frosting and then a "swervy (sp?) pointy" design...what is the name of that design? I like it but have no clue how to start it off.
AHi there, I am a home baker and here are a few of my most recent cakes....I can tear my cakes apart with flaws but thought I would see what all you lovely people have to say. http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3250621/spooky/sort/display_order/ http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3250619/pink-ombre-ruffle-cake/sort/display_order/ http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3250620/jungle-themed-baby-shower-cake/sort/display_order/ http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3250622/airplane-themed/sort/display_order/
Would love suggestions on keeping stripes straight from table to cake.
Thank you in advance for your time!
AHi, i just started selling cakes, here are a few of my most recent ones. I would love to hear any suggestions on improving or different method used to perfect my creations. I really struggle with making stripes super straight. http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3250622/airplane-themed/ http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3250621/spooky/sort/display_order/ http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3250622/airplane-themed/sort/display_order/ http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3250620/jungle-themed-baby-shower-cake/sort/display_order/
Thank you in advance!
Hello! I just did my first topsy turvy cake and would love some feedback. I have another coming up in a few weeks and would love to be able to improve this design.
Thanks!!
AWell, I'm no expert on topsy-turvy cakes (and neither do I play one on television), so all I really know is that if it looks like it's going to fall over, but doesn't actually do so, then you've succeeded.
Nope, didn't fall over. Even after sitting outside at a pool party in 85 degree weather.

Spongebob birthday cake Feedback?
Nothing wrong with that cake. Great job. The only thing I want to whack you for is taking a great photo with a gnarly backdrop. Get yourself two pieces of black and two of white foam core and use one under the cake and one in the back - propped up against the cabinets (in whichever color goes best with the cake you've done. Makes all the difference in the world.

Your cakes are lovely. I found the key to straight stripes is a rolling cutter. I used to try to use a pizza cutter and ruler, but broke down and bought a rolling cutter. After you cut, and roll them up like a fruit roll up, then unroll as you are placing on the cake. I saw this technique in one of those cake shows on tv years ago and it does prevent them from stretching and getting out of shape. That is how I made my stripes for my flag cake, and some others that are not even posted yet.
