Asap....cake For After Funeral....
Decorating By bulldog Updated 23 Jan 2015 , 3:40am by Pastrybaglady
I have to make a cake for after a funeral on Weds. It was a church member who died. I am going to make a 12"x18". How do I decorate? I figured just white with a top and bottom border... I don't know, I just am still a little shocked. Any help would be so appreciated...
Maybe some roses on top with nice borders. But I wouldn't do much more than that though.
I made 2 sheet cakes for the reception after my Aunt's funeral. I took a knife a drew through the icing to divide the top into squares (to make squares the size that I wanted each piece to be.) Then I put a simple pink rosebud in the center of each piece.
Tami,
That is a lovely cake and I am sure the family appreciated it.
Quite appropiate.

I think you could not go wrong with any cake that was simple with flowers. I love the one that Tami did. I did one back in November...I did a cross with some scrollwork. It was very simple.
I think doing a white sheet cake and adding some lilies to the middle and make a pale border to match would be nice as well.
Lilies represnt so many things and I think it shows respect for those we have loved and lost.
Here's a cake that was on google that I think would be nice to make into a sheet cake.

I did a cake recently for a funeral reception, i actually made a smiley face, got everyone to think of happier times, as odd as it was this was what the customer wanted. it is on here in my photos.
I would also agree with everyone else that a simple cake would work well, if u know the person liked a certain color you might want to go with that
I like TamiAZ's cake - I've always seen just white cakes but I think that totally appropriate.
Thanks everybody! Your ideas are great, and the cake pics are beautiful. Now I am not going in so blind. I knew you all would have very appropriate ideas. Thanks again.
I did a cake for a funeral that was very simple and had a mound of lilys on the top. I think simple in this case is very elegant
i would suggest a cake that looks like, uhhh, dessert. nothing fancy, just something comforting.
Wow, Tami, your cake is perfect, I'm going to save that in my favorites for future reference.
I love your cake. My father passed yesterday & I was wanting to put a cross on his cake & the one I seen on yours was perfect. Could you please find it in your to let me know how you made it? I would be forever grateful!
Thank you so much _

ADawn, so sorry about the loss of your father. Since this thread is from 2006 I don't know if Tami is still active on CC, but the cross looks to me to be a royal icing transfer. You can google or youtube it if you need some instruction. Hope everything works out for your cake, it must so hard to concentrate right now :(
