My fiancé loves Nutella and has been asking me to come up with a Nutella cake or cupcake combo so I decided to try a Nutella Buttercream and after just one cupcake he was hooked and says this is his favorite. My cupcake combo was Devils’ Food cupcake, Nutella Mousse filling and Nutella Buttercream.
2 sticks (1 cup) butter, softened
4 cups confectioners’ sugar (16 oz box)
5 Tbls. of milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup of Nutella (softened)
Place butter in a large mixing bowl; add 2 cups of confectioner’s sugar, 3 tbls. milk, and vanilla. On medium speed, beat until mixture is smooth. Add remaining 2 cups of confectioner’s sugar, and remaining 2 tbls. of milk, beating until frosting is of a good spreading consistency. Fold in Nutella to buttercream until there are no streaks (you can beat with mixer, but be careful not to over beat or it will become grainy).
