It has been a recipe in our family forever. At every family get together this is a must. Super moist, best when served slightly warm. Makes me want a piece just thinking about it....
Cake
2 sticks of butter
1 cup water
3-4 T. cocoa (HEAPING) *I use about 5-6.
2 cups of self-rising flour
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
Icing
1 stick butter
3-4 T. cocoa * Again, I always use a bit more
About 6 T. milk
1 bx powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
**You can also put 1 cup pecans if ya like em
Cake
Preheat 375. Grease 12X18 sheet cake pan
Bring to boil butter, water and cocoa. Remove from heat and add flour and sugar. Mix well. Beat into mixture eggs and buttermilk. Then add vanilla. Pour into prepared pan. Bake for about 20 - 25 minutes. (do touthpick test)
Icing
Bring to boil butter, cocoa and milk. Remove from heat and add vanilla and powdered sugar. Pour over warm cake.
* I don't like my icing as sweet as the recipe calls for. Just add to your taste.
**Sometimes the icing will get little powdered sugar lumps in it, I put it back on the heat and cook for a minute. This icing is a bit running and it is meant to be this way. ENJOY!
