I want to make a cake like this for my grandson but not sure how many layers to bake. I want to start baking and freezing for next week so would appreciate any input. I think the bottom might be 3 layers torted but not sure and the top is a big question Thanks for any advice you may have t give me. Also anyone want to guess how much yellow fondant I need  |

Since you will have a lot you need to cut away, I guess that the bottom is three layers and the top is six layers. They definitely don't have the same number of layers since the top is much higher and is slanted in different directions so there will a lot to be cut away. Good luck! |

based on the length of a lollipop stick (used on top as deco holder)
if that 2" exposed
them top tier is at least 8" tall -- 4 2" layers and bottom is 6" tall -- 3 2" layers.
and in pic top tier is decidedly taller than the bottom one. |

thanks everyone! mydaughter found the cake online and sent it to me so as far as I can tell, it's not from anyone here. I will post pics when I finish, again, thanks for taking time to help and please keep your fingers crossed for me  |

Probably not:) Remember the small the cake round the taller it looks.
Take a look at most 6"x4" round cakes & you will see what I mean. It looks much taller than the other 4" tall tiers |

Also, I've never made a topsy turvy but I've seen lots of tutorials and they will sometimes cut the top layer at an angle and then flip one of the pieces around to make the top that slanted. |

This is how I do it. Torte the layer at an angle, then spin top part around so skinnie sides are together, thick sides are together. You don't lose and cake except when tappeing the bottom. Did that make sense? |
