I will make 6"x6,8"x8",10"x10 and 12"x12" stacked up cake.
How many wilton plastic dowels do I need to support 10x10 square cake on the 12"x12 square cake?
I don't want to assemble all tiers at home but what if I just stacked up only
two bottom tiered at home? do I need a center dowel for a just in case?
it is 15minutes driving to deliver but there are some bumpy roads.
I am also thinking about putting all dowels into the cakes at home.
so it is less stress free to assemble at the party place.
I would love to hear any advices.

I use four dowels no matter what size the cake is. |

I always use 5 dowels 1 in the middle and 4 near the perimeter where the cake is to sit and each layer is doweled except the top layer. I never use a dowel right through the center and have never had a problem as yet. Often wonder how much cake is wasted because of the dowels. I always use wooden dowels as well, pointed one end and flat the other. Good Luck with the transporting. |

I also use five dowels. And yes, you can insert the dowels at home before transporting so it's ready to assemble at the venue. Makes it easier. I have never had a cake larger than 12-10-8, never done a 4 or higher tiered cake but I think if I did I would use a center dowel for stability. Good luck!

i use 4-5 in each tier, none down the center of the entire cake. i use bubble tea straws instead of wooden dowels and LOVE them...cheaper, they don't splinter and have greater surface area. |
