Please try to stop a disagreement I'm having w/ my mother. LOL. I'm making a 3D violin cake for a co-worker's son. I was going to charge her $25 for this cake, thinking that was pretty darn cheap. Now my mother thinks I'm charging too much for this cake because her neighbor only charges her $5 a cake. Now her cakes are nice but not as detailed as I do and not 3D. Am I charging too much?

I wouldn't care less what my family thinks when I do business..If you ask me the 3D Violin should be well over $100.00 dollars but then again I do this a s a business.Never mind what Mom says..charge what you want!! LOL

P.S. No...$25.00 is not too much!

I usually don't care what Mom says. That's why I live 3000 miles away from her. LOL. Don't get me wrong, I love Mom but don't usually listen to her. I was thinking the same thing....these kinds of cakes usually go for hundreds of dollars. Thanks!!

I also think $25 is way underpriced. My smallest sheet cake is $50!

And yes, family members are the last people in the world who should give input on pricing. They've no idea. None. Nada. Zip.

Wow.

25 dollars for a 2-D, custom-made, freshly baked cake?

Wow.

Sorry but even your 25 is WAY TOO CHEEP!!!!! That is just insane. Let her look at some cake prices on-line. And you can at least double your prices. (assuming it is all legal and on the up and up) I can't sell cakes where I live from home but if I could I wouldn't even turn on my oven $25 bucks.

Thanks for all your input. I am only charging this cheaply because its a co-worker. If it were an order for anyone else, I would definately charge more. Like I said, this is the first time paying job that I've done. I only asked because my mother had me 2nd guessing myself. Darn mothers! LOL

Your neighbor charges $5? Has someone bothered to tell her that she has to be going in the hole every single time she makes a cake?

$25 is way too cheap!
