There really isn't a point to this post, I just feel like a total jack*ss and figured it would be most appreciated here on Cake Central. I recently had an order for a wedding and groom's cake. I marked it down in my book and on my calendar for Memorial Day, then spent three days preparing and decorating. The cake turned out beautifully, 3-tier, 14, 10 and 6 inch stacked cake, covered in fondant with sheer black ribbon and delicate black vines piped on. Very satisfied with my work, I drove to the church that was 35 miles away, called the bride and told her I was there with the cake. She asks me what I'm talking about...at first, I think she's just teasing me, but then she says the wedding isn't until Saturday (this is last Monday). Turns out, she didn't say Memorial Day, she said the weekend AFTER Memorial Day. My heart sank so low I could feel it beating in my toes! Basically, after 28 hours of work and more money than I'd like to admit put into it, all of it was for nothing! In the six years that I've been doing cakes, I've gotten one date mixed up before this one, and it was only a small birthday cake and easily remedied. My heart is still breaking over this one, especially considering I have to do it all over again this weekend. Sorry so long, but I'm questioning my sanity here. Has anyone else ever done this? |

Oh that would be an awful feeling I guess the positive way to look at it is you did a trial run on the design and the actual cake for Saturday will be even better! |

Not yet but im sure it's comming. I did have a dream one night that someone called me and said they were comming to pick up their cake and I said "WHAT CAKE?" In my dream I had completely forgotten to make someone's cake. Since that dream, I've been so afraid I really will. |

I just keep thinking that at least you were early. What if you THOUGHT she said the weekend after, but she actually said memorial day? That would be worse. Sorry, just trying to see the glass half full... |

I'm so sorry!! To look at the positive side, at least it was a week early and you have time to redo, rather than having written it down for the week after. Best wishes for the redo. |

Wow! Atleast you know what to expect when it comes time to make the cake again.maybe it will help cut down on the hours. Hopefully someone got to enjoy your cake.
Wish it were me! |

Unfortunately, yes I have done that. And I had it written correctly on my calendar! I showed up with a large birthday cake at the venue and called the customer (kind of perturbed) and said I am here with the cake, where is everybody? She said the birthday party is TOMORROW. Embarrassed doesn't quite cover how STUPID I felt. At least the cake just went in the fridge for the next day but the stupid feeling was still there when I delivered it. |
