I am designing an acryllic cupcake stand for my husband to build. I would love to see some ideas from those of you who were industrious enough to build your own stands! Post your pictures, if you will, and a brief description of materials and how many cuppies your stand will hold.

Thanks!!!

Hi,
I don't know how to add a picture here but if you go to my photos there is a 3 teir one on dispay for Pink Ribbon.
My dad made this oe using the MDF cake boards and used one central long screw. To seperate he used a thich stick he had lying around drilled through this as well and attached. To finish he put a door knob on top as a handle.
He then sprayed it white.
I am sorry I gave this stand away and cannot rmember the dimensions etc. but I hope this helps you in some way.

MDF is a type of fabricated wood (I think), like particle board. But my understanding is it's a better product than particle board, doesn't warp as easily when wet, and is extremely strong. You can find it at just about any hardware or lumber store ~ just ask for MDF and they'll know exactly what you are talking about!

I just got a book from Lowe's Home Improvement that had a cupcake stand in it that was really cute. They took 4, 6 and 8 inch terra cotta pots and 10, 12 and 14 inch terra cotta saucers; primed them & spray painted them pink in this case. They lined the saucers with wax paper and stacked them; 14" saucer with an upside down 8" pot inside. Then the 12" saucer and 6" pot followed by the 10" and 4". They stacked them up one atop the other and put flowers in the very top one.

Here, I found a link!

There are a lot of different things you could do on this idea.

Here is mine. I have only used it this one time - I need to "promote" it more. This was for a wedding shower. There were 6 different flavor cupcakes so I made place cards to put beside the flavors so people would know what they were. I got the instructions on how to make it here at CC and my FIL made it for me![/img]

Now's my chance to brag about my dear dear DH

He made me two full sets - round and square, each starting at 18" up to 8" in 2" increments. Yessssss...I AM a spoiled lucky lady!

They are made with plywood. We tested using 1/2 foam core, but even with "washers" made from CDs, the foam core crushed when you screwed the fittings in tight enough to keep the boards from wiggling.

The fittings are 1 1/2" PVC fittings, with the straight pieces cut to about 4 1/4". The bottom has a male end going through the base with a small screw cap to hold. The big 18" base has cabinet knobs as feet a-la-Martha Stewart, but we didn't use that big a base for the pictures so I used some rubber stick on feet we found at Lowes....actually I think they were door stops.

Since we started this, I've seen simpler methods, but you won't get anything more flexible or sturdier than these!

My biggest issue after the fact is that we painted them so there wasn't raw plywood, but when we went to use the sticky shelf paper, it wouldn't stay! I had to use 2-sided tape to hold it. Any ideas?

We certainly had fun working on these together...hope it helps.

Edited to add: This one with (I think 12-10-8") held almost four dozen full size cuppies + the figure.
