We have two wonderful ladies competing against one another for the January 2009 Monthly Throwdown.
Please pick your favorite and vote. I know it won't be easy, but please vote. And, I am sure they would love to hear your comments as well.
Contestant #1 (ROMANCE) - My Romance Entry is a 6-8-10 cakes covered in fondant with gumpaste décor and some piping with buttercream. I had so much fun doing this cake, thinking of all the little things that are romantic.

Contestant #2 (LOVE BIRDS) - The cake is made of 10", 8", and 6" tiers and covered in chocolate fondant. The flowers (200 of them - I counted! LOL) were made of gumpaste and then painted with luster dust, mixed with clear vanilla extract. The birds were molded with a fondant/gumpaste mix and painted with diluted gel coloring. I got the idea for the birds from a polymer clay book I found at the library. The hearts were piped in royal icing and then painted with luster dust. It was a lot of fun thinking of ideas for this cake (I swear it took over my dreams for weeks) and actually creating it. Good luck to my TD partner!

Ya'll did a fantastic job! I'm lovin' the love birds and I'm also lovin' the 'LOVE'. This one is very difficult!
beautiful cakes!!! i shall be voting right away...
a quick question... do you need to have CC buddies on here in order to participate in these TD's? because *ERM* my social skills have been lacking and i don't have any friends
but i'd love to somehow get involved in this TD thing all the kids are ranting and raving about!!!
Wow what gorgeous cakes!!! They are both simply beautiful. This is going to be tough. You both should be very proud of your work.
I love these cakes... Cakes by jen... I would love to do a TD also... Maybe we could do it... I just dont know hop to set it up myself..........
Hello ladies.
Jen and Mabryant - you don't have to know the person to compete against. Find people on here with the same skill set as you - look at pictures to see their styles and their work and then start asking people if they would like to participate in a TD (THROWDOWN) with you. The rules are in the CONTEST forum. Go over there and read through them.
Basically, you need to do the following:
1. find someone to do the TD with you (make sure they are at the same skill level as you...look at people's pictures, etc)
2. work with that person and determine your theme
3. find someone to post your TD for you (like I did for these two contestants). I'm always willing to help so just let me know and I can do it!
4. make your cakes
5. take pictures and submit your best 3 (usually a front view, back or top view, and a closeup of your details).
6. resize your photos to be 800 x 800 pixels or less. If you can't and you have me post them for you, I can resize.
7. submited your photos to your "HOST POSTER" by 3 pm Central Time on the 3rd Saturday of the Month (if there are 5 weeks in the month, then you would have until the 4th Saturday of that month).
Wow, both are beautiful, I don't know which one to choose. Let me see Got it, my vote is ready.
Wow, I cast my vote, and they're DEAD EVEN... EXACTLY the same number of votes! Crazy... They ARE both quite good!
Don't forget to vote on the throwdown challenges!

I love both cakes. You guys did a great job. Wow, how many flowers are on the love birds cake, that must have taken forever!
These are really close in the polls and with good reason! They are both so sweet. (Both something I can only aspire to.) Great job!
Both cakes are great, the lovebird cake has such clean elegance, a very beautiful cake and the romance one is fun with many different designs. Wonderful job to both designers.
oh my gosh, they're both so wonderful!! although, i was curious about the making of the birds and that part was cut out of the description...is there a way to finish reading it?
Pat yourself on the back you both did a wonderful job on your cakes...tough decision on this one. Gonna cast my vote now.
