My Tiramisu Cake With Marscapone Filling.

Alot of you wanted to know about my Tiramisu cake recipe. However I really dont have a recipe because I made it up as I went along. I can give you the jist of what I did and hope you all can follow that. lol. I hardly ever measure when I am making up recipes so it is hard for me to give measurments but this filling is really easy!!!
I use a white cake recipe (mine is from scratch, but you can use whatever recipe you like). I use a really high quality instant expresso, I added maybe a teaspoon to the cake batter. ( It depends as well how big your cake is).
Then I made a simple syrup and added some expresso to that as well and dabbed that on the cake after it was cooled.
For the filling I used vanilla bean SMBC as a base and added about 4-6 oz of Marscapone cheese to it.
Mix until fluffy. Then I added the expresso and a very high quality cocoa powder to it.
Mix until well blended.
I do not have measurements for those, I just added until I liked the taste, however do not add too much cocoa just enough to give a hint of flavor!
Then I filled the cake and that was it. My SIL loves tiramisu and said this was better than the real tiramisu she had from a restaurant that day. Hope you like it!! If you have any questions, just let me know. Hope I explained everything okay!!

Do you know if this cake needs to be kept refridgerated? Sure sounds DELISH!!!
It does due to the fact that there is cheese in the filling. What I do is after I fill my cakes and Buttercream them, Since I only use smbc, I stick them in the freezer. Then I fondant them and while I decorate it, it stays cold inside. By the time I have to deliver it is thawed. I do this and havent had a problem.

This was definitely good! I skipped adding coffee in the cake mix, but I just might as some said they wanted even more coffee flavor. I thought it was great as is...

I'm glad this helped you and you liked it calivettie!! I do think the expresso in the batter gives it an extra punch. You could even add Kahlua to the simple syrup and that is really yummy too! Thanks for letting me know your results!!!

I borrowed your recipe, changed it just a smidge, and served it at my MIL's birthday party, she just turned 65.
I made it with a french vanilla modified box mix. I didnt put the espresso in the cake batter, but I did make a coffee simple syrup with sugar, water, instant espresso powder, a little cocoa powder, and some vanilla.
I brushed it over the cake, pretty liberally. I made the filling just like you said with the SMBC, the marscapone, and cocoa powder, but I added some extra vanilla, and instead of espresso powder I added some Kahlua (coffee liquer). I made dips and swirls on the top, and sprinkled some cocoa powder on top to finish it off.
There was not a crumb left in the house Jess! It was like a feeding frenzy! People were coming back for a third piece! Thanks a bunch for the recipe.
Ok, guys, I've been looking for mascarpone cheese in the supermarket, and can't find it anywhere??? Anyone know where I should be looking, or if there is anything I can substitute? Ricotta perhaps??

I find it by the specialty cheeses and meats in the deli section. If you still cant find it ask the deli, they will know.
I suppose you could use cream cheese to sub. I don't think it will be as creamy though. HTH

The closest sub would be cream cheese.
I used to make tiramisu all the time when I had my cafe and thought the filling, when made with all mascarpone, was too rich and too fatty. I used half cream cheese and half mascarpone.

Jess, Thanks for this marvellous recipe! It included many firsts for me, mascarpone cheese (so yummy!), and using a simple sirop on the cakes. I really found that makes the cakes much more moist! The final product was fantastic, although I must admit I didn't eat any more than one piece, because I had eaten WAY TOO much of the filling and frosting before assembling the cakes!! LOL!
I would love to try this recipe for this weekend... Mama's B-Day! But, what do you frost with?? A white buttercream? or another frosting?

I use SMBC to crumb coat. I cover with Fondant after. If I don't do fondant, then just the SMBC. I suppose you can use the mascarpone SMBC to Frost with.

I say try it, see if you like it. I personally tend not to like chocolate tiramisu. I like traditional flavors for tiramisu.
But why not experiment if you want!!! I experimented and that is how I came up with this one.
