I need an idea on how to do a flame border? I was thinking of layering my piping bag with yellow orange and red frosting and start at the bottom and work my way up the cake making a flame in various sizes all the way around the cake but I feel that would take forever layering, if anybody has some other suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. TIA~Dedra~ |

My guess would be to use the leaf tip. Here's a bump, anyway. |

Interesting to find out. I only did one with red, orange, black flames shooting up the side of the cake but I did these in fondant layers. Was quick and easy though. |

I did a harley cake last year and used chocolate as the flames.. just piped flames with red, yellow and orange wafers and placed them around the cake.. I liked how it turned out.. the pic is in my photos if you need a visual
I do like the idea of using the leaf tip and layering your colors in your bag.. I think that would look really nice too! |

im sorry but i dont have a pic of this but you can do something simple use a ten or twelve tip in your 3 colors and do a pulling method with the fat end making the bottom of the flame and the tip the top and just layer them together until you get the look you want. when your done they should look like teardrop shape. hope this helps

I once made a flame border by 'striping' my piping bag with gel coloring. Using a paint brush, I painted lines of orange and red in my piping bag and then put white icing in the bag. It's the Hot Wheels cake in my photos if you want to see the effect. There was a lot of white in my 'flames', but I'm sure you could adjust that. |

When I did the godzilla cake in my photos I just did red and yellow icing and when the mixed a bit where they connect I got the orange shade. I used a leaf tip. The cake is in my pics.
HTH

Tip 352 is great for doing flames. Also, if you use yellow or light orange with some red gel striping in your bag, you get a great two-toned effect. HTH! |

I did a flame border, it's in my pictures on a Harley cake. I piped on buttercream thinned with corn syrup in a flame shape, (just the outline) and took a paint brush and piping gel I had tinted red and brushed -- drawing the yellow buttercream and the red gel together. I know these are perfect directions, but I just fiddled with it until I got it how I wanted. Added a dab of yellow when needed, etc. |
