I would like to try this recipe for a 10 inch round and need it to be 4 inches high. How much batter does this recipe make? |

I made this recipe this past weekend for my son's bday. The recipe makes one 9X13 sheet cake. I doubled it and made a 10x14 that was 2 inches deep.
I must say, it is very very good. |

Thanks for your replies!! I just made one layer (10") and had to bake it for close to 50-55 minutes!! Is that normal? I did forget to put in the rose nail so I'll do that for the next layer to see if that was the problem. I'm considerned that the outer edges of my baked layer are overdone as they are hard and crusty. Should I start over?? |

I had to bake it for that long also. I figured it was because I doubled it. Mine did crust a bit on the sides, but it did not get burnt. It tasted great. I guess if it looks good to you and doesn't smell burnt it should be ok. Sorry if that doesn't help, sometimes I eyeball it. |

Level the cake below the crusty part and it'll be fine |

That cake is my favorite. I must add though if you do not like a "fudgy" chocolate cake, it is amazing using milk chocolate cake mix, chocolate instant pudding, and milk chocolate chips. Put it with the chocolate syrup frosting and you will just die. I bake (2) 8x3" cakes for 30 minutes on 325 and 10 minutes on 350 and they are perfect. Enjoy! |

Thanks for all the replies!! I tried another layer and used the rose nail but for a 10" I still had to bake close to 50 minutes at 325. It didn't seem to get as crusty though and I'm looking forward to trying it out!! |
