I just use a basic chocolate cake recipe, and doctor it up a little bit with cherry flavoring or cherry liquor. For the filling I get canned cherries, but I just use VERY little of the juice, I pick out the cherries and use mainly those, sometimes it takes me 2 cans. I cover with SMBC (swiss meringue butter cream), because its not as sweet as regular BC. Then cover with fondant.
Dont forget a dam to go around the outer edge of the cherries. This will prevent blowouts.
