I am so happy and feel great about myself at the same time. I now know I made the right decision to start my own little cake business. I honestly love doing cakes. I call it my therapy time. My business has thrived just in the short amount of time that I've been "official" this past year.
Anyway, my husband is currently on a 6 month deployment to the Middle East along with 32 other soldiers from his unit. I told my husband to pass on the word that if a soldier wants me to do any type of cake for their families while they are gone for a birthday, anniversary, etc to let me know and I'd be more than happy to do one for no charge at all. I've gotten a great response from the guys and they are absolutely thrilled and thankful that I even offered to do this for them. So far I've done 3 birthday cakes for children, a birthday cake for a soldier's wife, and the massage therapy school graduation cake. Just the other day when I surprised the soldier's wife at work with her beach themed cake, she actually cried. I had a message on the cake that said "Happy Birthday, I love you and miss you" from her husband and she loved it.
The reactions I am getting from the wifes and children when I surprise them, along with the heartfelt thanks I receive from the soldiers, makes me realize this is why I decorate cakes. I think it was important for me to do this since I know firsthand how their wives and children feel. My husband will miss my son's 5th birthday in November so I'm going to make his cake extra, extra special. |

What you are doing is so awesome! I am glad that you have found your calling! Keep up the good work and definitely be sure to make your son's cake EXTRA special!!! Our children are the ones that suffer the most through these deployments and that little bit of "extra" can make all the difference! Have a great day and keep up the good work. Your family will be in my prayers.

What a wonderful way to support these families that sacrifice so much! My husband was deployed during our oldest son's first birthday and even though he was too little to remember it was very difficult for the rest of us, especially DH. Please tell your husband thank you for his service. We appreciate it so much. I'll be praying for his safety and for your son to have a very special birthday! |

What a wonderful gift you are giving! I know that you will be repaid many times over for your kindness and generosity! Maybe not in this world, but in another!
You are truly 'paying it forward'!
God bless you and your family!
And be sure to let us see your son's birthday cake!

I just love you guys! You all are awesome.
The soldier who asked me to do the birthday cake for his wife told me he appreciated it so much because he loves to make his wife feel special and this was his way of doing it while he was gone. I was just so honored to be a part of that.
The beehive birthday cake I did was for a 5 year old little girl who's daddy is my husband's roommate over there. My husband said her father had tears in his eyes when he saw the cake because he was worried that his daughter's birthday wouldn't be special, but we made it that way. We also saved him a bee a flower from the cake.
I did a 3D spiderman bust cake for a 4 year old little girl whose mother is over with my husband also. Her face just lit up when she saw it and she gave me the biggest hug.
It's a very heartfelt feeling for me. Just seeing the smiles on their faces and knowing that I did something for my husband's fellow soliders is worth more than anything.
We as decorators know there are very weird customers out there, but when you find the ones that truly truly enjoy the work you do, it makes it all worth it. |
