Just wonder if you went and what you thought about it? |

I went and I thought it was interesting. Although, I thought it was smaller that I imagined. Did you participate? |

No, I did not participate. Did you go to the one last year? If so, what did you think about last year compared to this year? |

I did not go last year....was it bigger or smaller last year? I heard that the venue last year was really cramped. I think the venue this year was pretty good... |

Well, I will put it this way. If the fire marshal had come in there last year, it would have been shut down.
The location, this year, was much better, however the turnout was a lot less.
I think I would have liked it better had the tables been set up where you could have seen them better and not let the crowd walk around while they were working. I saw one little boy, that I'm thinking belonged to a person volunteering, walk up right up to the people while they were working and started talking to them. He even tried to pick up something off one of the tables, however that lady told him not to. I would think that would be really annoying.
The competitors did not have as much time to decorate as they did last year. |

I thought the competition time was not enough either. I barely had time to finish it all and it was not what I wanted. Of course had I a normal amount of time I think my cake would have been much neater. I was embarrassed at some of the things on it, but I really tried so I guess that has to count for something. you know when you have the picture in your mind and you don't get what you see? I was particualry annoyed since I KNOW I could do the things right that I did wrong, if I only had more time.
I rememeber that boy, I did actually ask him not to touch.
Over all I thought it was fun. It was super cool meeting B Keith and the 2 ladies were really nice!
Somehow i thought I would get to meet CC people, but I did not have time to do anything. If I do it next year I will put up a sign to say hey to CC'ers. I love to meet new people.

I was hoping someone would post about it!
I was going up until that morning and something came up, I just couldn't make it. I was curious to see how it compared to last year.
The space last year WAS way too small, making it too hot in there for the participants. I didn't like how the crowd was so close (mostly to the intermediate group), it had to be distracting at times.
It's still young, hopefully, they continue to improve. Just pass on your suggestions.
Anyone have pics? Who won? What was the theme again? |

The theme was Showtime.
I have pictures, but only of me. My Dh did not think that I would need pics of other people's. I could have stepped on his toes. I wanted to see ALL of them. There were very nice cakes there....
One lady even came up to ask if I needed extra help at them end (obviously i looked desperate at that point). I thought that was super nice and very sporting.
For my first contest of any kind I thought it was fun. I really enjoyed my family there...that was really special to me.

Acookieobsession - I believe I know which one you were. Did you do the Fox cake which had the blue and browns layers with the red curtain on the bottom layer? If that was you, your father was sitting next to the group that I was with.
Do you have to sign anything about not being able to post pictures of your cake? I just wondered, because I did not see any pictures from last year posted on CC. And I read, approximately a month ago on here, where someone who decorated last year was going to do it again this year.
Ironbaker - If I am correct about acookieobsession, she was a winner. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the lady that won 1st place and the audience choice.
They did not have the children's division this year. And I believe we counted 10 participants, which was less than last year. |

I was actually the one that won people's choice and advanced 1st place. My dad was there....and my aunts and cousins....big country family! I love them.
I can post my picture, but like i said DH flaked on camera duty for the others.
I was a little confused about how much you could bring in advance. I only brout the oscar and tried to do the rest there....big istake because I was SERIOUSLY rushing. As evidenced by my crooked writing and sloppy painting (by my standard).
I liked the format, but I think I might like to do it in my own tiem so that I can do it all right the way i knwo I can. |

Well, you are the second one that I know of that said something to that little about touching stuff. I don't think they should have been letting that happen.
I know which one you were, because I voted for you. Your cake was great! Thought it was unique and liked that you put the names of actors from the past.
I was thinking about asking you a question that day, but didn't want to bother you. What was the clear mat you were using to roll out your fondant on? You didn't seem to be having a problem with the fondant sticking like some others were. |

The mat was vinyl from the fabric department at Walmart. Get the thick kind...there are a few. I fid have to get tape from the volunteers to tape it to the table. The volunteers were never around either. I had to get my family to track them down.
Thank you for the compliments...I spent HOURS obsessing about the design. I am proud to say that I came up iwth the design all on my own without looking at anyones photos. rarely am I so creative! |

Did you have to coat the mat or used as is?
You wining both, was the same way it happened last year. The lady that won like that last year, was there competing again this year. |

I just use crisco like on any normal mat....It is used for tables and such so i believe it is safe.
Which cake did last year's winner make this year? Unfortunately i did not get to talk to many people....too busy with my nose to my cake grindstone! |
