I was just curious how many of CC'ers have husbands who want to help with the cakes. I was reading a post from somewhere about how her husband is her icing smoother and was wondering how many of you also have DH's that like to help and work on cakes?

Mine actually took the Wilton classes with me, lol....and he had long hair and tattoos so it was fall-on-the-floor funny to watch him in a room full of women trying to pipe the perfect buttercream rose!

I am such a control freak that I won't really let him do too much. One time, he was in charge of baking the cakes and they were soooo dry so ever since then, I am like a mother hen when the cakes are in the oven. But when we took the classes, he was always better at smoothing the icing then I was, which royally ticked me off! Maybe it was all that work with brick and mortar?? Smile

I get muscle weakness, especially in my arms, and when it's really bad I have my hubby roll out the fondant for me. Drives me nuts to have him do it, but I can't afford a sheeter, so it's him or me! Smile

My hubby is wonderful!

With cakes that I don't need his help, he always stays up late and keeps me company. He also contributes a lot of good ideas and helps me look at cakes differently with a new perspective (sometimes not always good...like at 11pm when he thinks we should engineer some new idea/angle/addition Crying or Very sad )

He's also gotten very good at molding fondant figures.

More than anything he's just extremely supportive of me! I just love him to pieces!

My DH is my "go-fer"--he runs to the store without a single complaint when I need anything. He also gets my boxes ready, helps package items when necessary, and takes photos.

He doesn't do any actual decorating (he does make suggestions sometimes, but quite honestly, they're usually not too practical Wink ), but I couldn't do it without him. I always start a cake by apologizing because I get pretty witchy when I'm under pressure & stressed.

He's very understanding and very proud of what I do--he's gotten me LOTS of business!

I try to remember to tell him thanks after every cake. I'm a lucky woman.

Mine mostly comes around for cake scraps and to point out any flaws he sees. If I ask for help he usually says "...oooohhhhhh, I was just about to go do _______"

He actually did help me recently when I had three sculpted cakes to do in one week, and I mostly work at night b/c of my three kids. I put him to work making buttercream and baking...a little cleanup. He's a chef so he does know his way around a kitchen....

My DH always helps me out. He tortes and levels my cakes (he does a much better job at this than me). He colors my fondant for me. He helps me lift the cakes and pack it in the car. He even cuts out my templates for me. He is such a big help, and he is so wonderful, and strong, and handsome ( I have to let him see this so that he keeps helping me, and doesnt ditch me during football season)!!!!!!! Wink

Mine is the "official taste tester" of new recipes for anything. Plus he always helps me try to look at things differently when I get a brain freeze. I'm my own worst critic.

Mine is the official dishwasher and put awayer when he is around. He also helps draw templates to me and such. He was an art major in college the first time around so that helps. But when it comes to anything in the baking or decorating dept he is hopeless.

My DH is the baker and cleanup, delivers and cuts the cake board and covers them. Pretty much I am just the decorator. He is more nervous than I am waiting to hear if the cake was great or not.

I like this thread! My husband doesn't know what to do in any kitchen, so he stays out of mine. On occasion, he will get supplies for me. He always worries about me delivering cakes and meeting strangers, so he makes himself available. Mostly though, he pouts b/c cakes take away time from him (which I think is cute) and I try to be balanced and schedule days where I don't do anything cake related so we can be couch bums and watch basketball.
