I would need your help for a cake estimate as I am relatively new at selling cakes. I was asked how much I would charge for a baby shower cake that would reproduce the attached design and would serve 60 persons. My idea is reproducing the characters in 3D figures as I have no idea how I could possibly reproduce these really good other than in 3D fondant or with an edible image. How much would you charge for such a cake in fondant with 3D characters? Or with an edible image? And how big should the cake be in order to serve 60 guests? Thanks.

Hi and Welcome, yzabelle. Smile

In addition to the methods you mentioned, you could also enlarge the image to use as a template.

Using the template/s you could make fondant cut-outs (which could be further embellished/appliqued to resemble the detail) of the individual animals.

Did your customer not request a sheet cake or tiered cake?

An 11x15x4 sheet cake would yield 60 party servings. (As would 8" [20] and 12" [40] tiered cakes.)

Here's a link to all four Wilton cake preparation and serving charts for 2 and 3" pans:
(Gives batter requirements, as well as recommended baking temps. and times - and more.)

That's the serving size chart I use. I would probably make a 2 layer 12x18 because I estimate the 11x15 being 50 servings, and because I only own 9x13 and 12x18 pans. lol

In additon to the edible image, 3d fondant animals (I cannot scuplt so that would be out for me) and cutting out fondant, you could blow the image up like the previous poster suggested and do a frozen buttercream transfer, or even the piping gel transfer.

Sorry for not replying earlier. Thanks again for your help. The cake was due last month. I finally made a round tiered cake with an 8" and 12". Here's a picture of the top tier with the 3D fondant animals. The mom-to-be loved it so much that she kept the top tier and will eat it after the baby's born. And still, they had plenty of cake with just the bottom tier. Smile

You did such a great job on your animals-if you looked quickly you'd think they were plastic! I can see why the Mom was so impressed!

Those are awesome! I can see why she wanted to save the top tier. Please tell me you charged her plenty for that cake. It must have taken forever to make those animals.

You did a fantastic job - those figures must have taken so much time. The cake is stunning.
