I've done stained glass candy but that's the extent of my sugar candy experience (unless you count countless hours watching it done on food network).

I need to make bee wings that will be inserted into bee cupcakes. I was thinking a poured sugar mold but I actually have no idea how one would go about that?

My first thought was to make a cookie cutter into the shape I want it
find direction on how to melt sugar
call fire dept. and have them on standby Smile
melt sugar and pour into mold
stick wings into cupcake

If I was trying to make bees wings I might be tempted to try Tuggy's method used for dragonfly wings . . . http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_7202.html . . . when I PM'd her this was her explanation . . .

The wings are made from gelatine. I just a wire, looped in the shape of the wings. Lay them flat on waxed-paper. Prepare the gelatine as mentioned on the packs and heat it, until it is runny. With a teaspoon fill the gelatine in the loop and let dry, for 24 hours. If you wish you can add luster dust, so the wings will shimmer.

If however, you are looking for a more "toonish" style . . . these are really cute . . . http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_53285.html

I like the gelatine idea. I might give it a try.

I won't use gelatin in or on my cakes. I've made bee wings from GP before. Roll thin, cut into a teardrop chap (freehand or with a cutter), vein them with something and let dry. You can then stick the pointed parts into the bee.
