This weekend, I had my very first wedding cake delivery! I have made practice wedding cakes, but this was the first real cake one, my first bride, everything!
You guys might not think this is funny, but I did.
The bride wanted me to drive down to a slightly dangerous part of Dallas (Deep Ellum). It is a bunch of bars for the more wild and goth croud, so I was a little surprised that the wedding reception was going to be there. It was at a place called the Darkside Lounge. Scary. I could never get the owner to call me back, so I had to drive down there not knowing if anyone would be there when I arrived.
Since it was Friday evening, I picked up my DH from work with my 2 kids and the cake in the back, and drive down there, just before party time begins. It took us forever to find it, but we finally did, and there were all these kids sitting outside with the white faces and black makeup and black clothes and piercings. My husband just starting laughing.
I gather the cake from the car, and walk up the the bar, and this one goth girl snears at my cake and says "That is one ugly cake." Ummm. OK. I just decided to ignore her.
I get inside and go up a bunch of stairs, and the place doesn't have normal lights, but black lights! Everything white is glowing blue. The wedding cake topper the bride left for me was a bride dragging a drunk groom behind her. I set it up and leave quickly. Got out safely.
The bride loved the cake and even wrote me a thankyou that Monday, but I still thought it was funny.
I would have attached a photo, but it was too big. Here is the link: http://www.cakecentral.com/mod.....id=1151817 |

congratulations! That first delivery is the worst (stress-wise). There's always some person who wants to take the wind out of your sails. Good for you to not listen to her...the cake was lovely! |

There are some interesting characters at Deep Ellum! Your cake was beautiful! i am also happy to see that you have picked yourself up and dusted off after the disasterous week you had a month or so ago.

Too funny. Great story.
Did you do the Clark Grizwald "Roll em up kids?"
(quote from vacation when they hit the bad part of town and he tells them to roll up the windows in the car) |

Thanks. When we got there, I looked at my DH and told him I was a bit intimidated to go in, but we were thinking, I can either leave him and my kids in the car with the doors locked, or I could drag them in with me. I think I would have felt like Britney Spears if I had taken them in that place. |
