I am going to attempt a pregnant belly cake. I've worked with some fondant lately, but am not a pro. icon_smile.gif Any suggestions on the cake and/or icing?

I also am not a pro with fondant. What I found was easiest for the fondant dress, was to make it in pieces... one piece for the dress to cover the belly and then another piece to cover the breasts. I used a tape measure to measure the distance over the belly and breasts so I would know how big to cut them. I then used another strip of fondant to cover the seam between the breasts and the belly. Belly cake is in my pics. almost forgot, I covered both the belly cake and the breasts with BC and let crust and then smoothed before covering in the fondant.

Is there a template for the belly cake. I'm awful with freehand. Thanks

I don't know of a template - but it is easy to do, even if you're bad at freehand (like me!).

For mine, I made a zuccotto cake for the belly (shaped in a large pyrex bowl) and then the ball pan, half-filled for the chest.

I didn't need alot of cake so I just put that on a cake board and then covered all the buttercream. I did the same thing as practiceandpatience and did the fondant in 2 peices. The chest was just a rectangle that I laid over and then with a pizza cutter, shaped it to what we wanted. Then a larger square to cover the belly, again cut with a pizza cutter to the right shape - we just eyeballed it. And last by not lease a little "belt" between the 2.

Good luck!

I thought I was going to have trouble making mine. I just took my time went slow and it came out perfect. I also did it in pieces. Cut the dress part, then 2 pieces for the top and then a strap in the middle and a bow. and also to tell you the truth, all i did was just roll out my fondant and just used a cutter and made a free hand shape. .it wasn't perfect, but once you put it on the belly, it came out great... I am posting my pic in my file now. I used an idea from someone on here. Let me look up the name so i can give her credit.
