Hi gang... I was checking eBay and noticed there are a few books out... she has Chocolate by the Cake Mix Doctor and just plain The Cake Mix Doctor.... The regular one has three listed, 1999, 2001, and 2003. Is there ANY difference in them at all??? If I were to get the one published in 1999 would it be the same as the one published in 2003 except the cover colors being different? Also is the Chocolate one worth buying as well??? I've got a few orders coming in back to back giving me some play money and I'm interested in getting these books since most of my cakes are box mixes I'd like to have them on hand for those off the wall flavor requests lol.... Any input/info is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The different dates listed may be because of reprintings. I think they are both great! However, I'm not sure a lot of people realize there is a third book...it's called the "Cupcake Doctor" and has recipes exclusively designed for cupcakes!
The regular "cake Mix Doctor" has a great recipe for a melted Ice cream cake. You can use any flavor of ice cream as the liquid to flavor the cake...yummmm! |

I checked the Cake Mix Doctor - regular one- out from the library. I made the second strawberry cake in the book and the carmel cake, which is the basic butter cake with carmel icing.
I made the strawberry cake 2 layers, instead of three, and it sunk way bad in the middle. So, I've determined that it is probably not a cake for my business. The butter cake was perfect.
Both of my taste testers (my dad and uncle) gave both cakes a perfect 10 and said that the recipes were definite keepers. As a matter of fact, they were adament about that.

I've got both books. I love the original & have baked many of the cakes. I agree with yh, regarding the strawberry cake. I made it twice & it fell both times. Everyone loves the buttermilk devil's food & buttermilk spice cake.
I haven't tried many of the recipes in the choc. book. I have noticed that some of the choc. cakes from the original book where in both books. Some of the cake recipes are very similar with the exception of the filling &/ frosting. I got my Choc. Cake Mix Doctor book on sale (I found a hardback for about $10). I would be interested to know which of the choc. cakes recipes people have tried. I remember a thread in which people posted their experiences with the recipes from the original book. I'll try to find it. |
