Yes, I am very new! I just cannot figure out the best way to put a mod mom graphic onto my 9x13 cake. This customer wants the graphic done in BC (fondant would have been easier I think-cut and put it on the cake!). So...how do I get a nice outline to fill in, I don't have a Kopycake..Help!!!
TIA!!

Hello!
Before I got my KopyKake this is what I did:
Printout a coloring page of what you want transferred or scan and enlarge invitation, etc so you have an image to work with. Place image against a flat piece of styrofoam. Use a toothpick or needle to poke holes along the lines of the image (dot-to-dot style), going thru paper and into the styrofoam. This will cause the paper to make bumps along the back of the paper in the shape of the image which will later emboss the image into your buttercream.
Now lift paper off styrofoam and put it on your iced cake. Gently smooth paper so that the bumps on the back emboss the image outline onto your cake surface. A bit tedious, but it works great if you don't have a KopyKake projector.
To fill in images I use Toba Garrett's Glaze. First I outline with a stiff consistency glaze, then fill in with a flooding consistency. It tastes and looks great, alot better than a bunch of buttercream stars! You can see examples in my pictures.

The way I was taught to transfer is take a backwards picture, place a piece of wax paper over the picture and trace it using blue piping gel. Place the wax paper on the cake and with your fingers or a blush brush or something on that order go over the gel. This will transfer on the cake. Fill in you transfer and go over the gel. Hope this helps |

I have always used this method and it works for me. Make a printed copy of the image (coloring page...) tape it to a thin piece of cardboard (like a piece cut from a gift box) then tape a piece of wax paper over it. Trace it with a ballpoint pen. This puts an indention on the waxed paper. then carefully lay the wax paper on your crusted buttercream covered cake. Lightly rub the indentions to press them onto the cake. You then have an outline to trace and fill in. Hope that makes sense. |

Thank you everyone so much for the suggestions. The cake looks easy enough to do, except this part!! I would love to use a glaze, or anything that looks prettier than filling with BC, but this is what the customer wants. At least the filling is not with stars, the pants will be just lines, and well, I have no idea how I will do the shirt and umbrella. I will let you all know how this turns out. It is not til next Friday, but I really did not know where to begin with the outline! Thankyou CCers!

Cakesksa: Wow! Your cakes look great! The images are very professional looking!!
For your outlines you say you use stiff consistency glaze. Does the recipe yield that or are you omitting some of the liquid ingredients to achieve this consistency? |
