I called my local Gordon Food Service today and she said she couldn't find anything on it and was wondering if I had a 6 digit code that they use to identify products. Does anyone, who buys their shortening from them happen to know anything about what she may be referring to? Please help me! I would like to get my hands on some of this stuff without having to order it online. Thanks!!!  |

I didn't see it either at my local GFS - I'd never been in there but I looked up and down EVERY aisle and didn't see anything like that - I saw Lard and Crisco..... but nothing like that _ i think you can ask them to ORDER it for you - I ended up just ordering it online at countrykitchen.com. |

They do not carry it in the store, but if you ask them, they can order it for you. It took some searching on the ladies' part, but she finally found the number. I'm sorry, I'm at work right now and don't have it in front of me. She found several things that were close to the Sweetex and Alpine, but I wanted the Sweetex. You may call them and give them a little while to look it up.
Sorry I can't be of more help. I haven't purchased it yet, but she printed out the info for me. I'll try to look at home tonight and post back to you if I can find it. |

Oh thank you fourangelsmommie!! You are such a dove!! I called today and gave the woman the info. Gave her every name I could think of Alpine, Sweetex and so on and she said she couldn't find anything. I told her I had heard someone had got theirs from them and she said "could you find out the 6 digit number". I was thinking oh no!! Unless maybe I could call the store you did and find out from them or have her call that store. I really appreciate your help!! |

I order the Vremay (I think that's how it's spelled) from Sysco. It's about $50 for a 50 lb. box but it's soooo worth it! |

I just called the GFS in Louisville, is that the one you called "fourangelsmommie"? The woman told me the same thing! I don't have any luck when it comes to stuff like this!! There are only 2 Gordon Food Services listed in Kentucky and I have called them both. I just think people don't want to take the time to really look. |

I forgot to say that I go to the GFS in Evansville, Indiana since I don't know where any GFS stores are in KY. Like I said, it took the lady almost 30 minutes to search thru and find the number. I'll keep looking. |

You can use less of it than crisco and it doesn't have a 'greasy' feel to it in your mouth. There isn't an aftertaste. Not sure how to explain it. Many bakeries use this instead of crisco. I've also read where some people think it makes your icing much whiter than normal crisco.

also when you use hi ratio for your icing it will be fluffy if you beat it long enough. I beat mine on the 2nd speed for 12 min and 3rd for 3 min. It makes your icing less sweet takes the sugar differently. |
