Every time I decorate a cake now I am singing my song, "Melvira, Melvira, my hearts on Fire Melvira." I love using the rollers Melvira that you 'invented'. It saves so much time in decorating cakes now it's amazing. Thanks for your invention. Just look how smooth my cake came out..... |

It is georgeous! I have to try that myself now. I went shopping this weekend bought the roller, and a spackling knife for the upside-down method. I am just now trying the upside down method for the first time! Wish me luck! |

Melvira uses a very dense hand-held paint roller to smooth her BC after it's on the cake. It's like 8 inches and the white foam one. I have yet to get the right one, but have been doing ok with a not so dense yellow foam one. Need to upgrade though! |

Lol Melvira is a member here. her smoothing method is called the Melvira Method. You can buy quite cheaply at a hardware/paint store mini high density foam rollers. There are different sizes.
Anyway, after your bc has crusted, you lightly roll the foam roller over your cake and it smooths out the icing like magic. I use them on my Frozen Buttercream transfers. I just pipe my design, make sure it's completely filled in, freeze it, flip it onto the cake, wait for it to defrost and crust, and then I roll the worms right out like magic.
She could make lots of money off the number of people who have been saved from a less than smooth cake.

Does this method work on non-crusting buttercream? |

I'M a Melvira!! hahaha! That was the cutest ever! It really made me smile!! FYI there is a complete article on the home page on how to do the method, it gives a thorough description and photos of exactly how to do it, and what you want to buy if you aren't sure. Just scroll down on the home page, it's after the 'how to make cupcake bouquets' and all of those other fantastic articles!
Sunflowerfreak... I love you too! Especially for letting me think I had anything to do with helping you make THAT awesome cake!! I love it SO much!
I really do want to market some of these fantastic ideas of mine. But it's not easy. I won't give up, I'll eventually find someone that can help me do it!! In the meantime, big hugs to all of you for your support!
(And thanks to my bud Nancy for pointing me toward this thread so I could jump in and send out some love!!) |

I love you, too, Melvira!!! LOL
Quick question...I mentioned this method to another Wilton instructor, who quickly informed me that the rollers weren't food safe. In my opinion, no one is gonna die b/c the cake was smoothed with a foam roller. Comments? |
