A customer would like a 3D cake in the shape of a go kart for their son's 14th birthday. They want the entire cake 3D, not a sheet cake of any kind. This one's got me beat! Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks!

This is a picture of one that's similar to what he's getting for his birthday...

ok...do you see what I see??? (and I don't mean the Christmas song!!!)

the bed of the cart is a sheet cake -- tho' what I'd do is use only 1/2 a layer (cut like torting the sheet -- then use only one layer -- the other layer can become the motor as...

the motor is pieces of cake cut and stacked

the seat is parts of sheet cake cut and arranged.

the wheels are cakes or donut or RKT

and everything else is fondant/gumpaste over wire or little molded pieces

i'd do the head rest part of the cake as a fondant piece on wire too.

---------

sketch:

gray = cake

white would be wood support boards.

to hold up cake off table -- large diameter dowels (1/2 to 3/4 inch would be placed behind each wheel point and painted out black to make them blend w/ the wheels which would hide them.

---------------

this is a BIG $ $ $ $ cake what with all the custom detail work!

decorator??

no way --- there are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many who are far more talented at making cakes.

now -- figure-outer? dissectionist? designer? architect? ok. (and just like an architect -- love to design them -- but hey...others are MUCH MUCH better at building them!)

(oh and LOL!!! -- I get a kick out of how many of us -- and I have to admit me too -- mistype my name as "dough" --- of course I am shaped like that certain doughboy! -- a freudian slip on all our parts?!?)

Thank you SO much Dough....I mean Doug! Ha ha! I'm going to layout a to-scale template tomorrow so my "tubing" can start to dry! I was dreading this cake...but now am excited about it! I'm not sure how much $ I'll charge, but luckily, I can name my price and not worry about a rejection, since it's going to a pretty wealthy client!
