I got an email last night from some one looking for a birthday cake to feed about 40 people. They want one cake for their two daughters, ages 2 and 10. What kind of theme can I suggest that will fit both girls?! |

with that type of age difference you should definitely check with the parents on what both girls like. Then design a cake around the simliar items.
here are a few things you could ask about then take it from there.
1) Favorite colors
2) Favorite flowers
3) Favorite character (maybe they both like a disney character)
4) Play sports or enjoy any?
I would definitely get some ideas about what they like. Personally for a girl I would do a pink cake with flowers but I also know a lot of girls/women that don't like that. |

split the cake in half. Do each side a different color and decorate the sides. On top you could put two sisters sharing a birthday cake. |

being that it's for girls you can never go wrong w/ flowers. maybe incorporate some of their favorite colors. polka dots and swirls is always fun and appealy to both ages. if it were me i'd just go crazy and have fun!
good luck |

Polka-dots are always cute. You could do a bottom tier with the older girl's favorite color, with polka-dots in the younger girl's favorite color. And then for the top tier, the younger girl's favorite color with polka-dots of the older girl's favorite color. Put matching shell/dot borders, a few matching flowers, and I'm sure they would be pleased.
If my description doesn't make sense, my newest cake that I uploaded sort of fits the idea above. |

Last year i celebrated my son's 12 and daughter's 2nd. I made a different cake for each. I wanted them both to have "their own cake".
Also did this for 2 nieces. they were going w/a flower and butterfly theme... so i did one cake of each.
Love the polka dot idea! |

Princess was my first thought as well. I really like the split cake idea though. That would be funny. Good luck. |

If you haven't tried doing a topsy turvy cake and plan to do one in the future, this maybe an opportunity to do one - girly colors, with circles and flowers. |

I have that same combo, 10 and 2 year old daughters. The first thing that popped into my mind is a cake with the girls on it, arguing at each other "This is MY cake!" and the little one screaming "MINE!"
Or at least that's what it's like at my house... |
