So I had my biggest order yet, 175 decorated sugar cookies for a graduation party. This was also my first customer that was a total stranger (found my website doing an internet search).
I work full-time at another job and new this would be tough, but could do it. Cookies were due last Saturday. My mom retired a few months ago and insisted she come and help me bake. I hesitated, but agreed. I already had some of the cookies in the freezer ready to be baked. She started popping those in the oven while I made more dough, rolled and cut, and explained to her the procedure. I went back to work (I work at home) and she went to work in the kitchen.
She baked for 4 hours on Thursday and 3 hours on Friday. I did all the decorating Thursday night and Friday. I would not have been able to do this without her! The best part is...she is insisting on baking for me all the time! I'm so excited since that is the part I don't like. I just love the decorating part and was wishing I could outsource the baking part. Mom said she needs meaning to her life now that she is retired. Couldn't have happened at a better time!
Just had to share my mom story! |

What a wonderful Mom you have Michelle... That's great...
My mom's living with me right now until her condo is finished, she does all the clean up for me. Leave a mess at night, wake up and it's gone..
I wouldn't let her bake for the life of me, her baked goods could be used for hockey pucks.. |

Nice job mom. You are in a great position in life. You and your mom are buddies. And work together well. And you have given your mom a new lease on life since retirement. Way to go girl. Lots of Luck and prayers for the both of you. |

MichelleM77- My fellow cookie making buddy-
Loved your story about your mom! I too work with my mom on projects, and she is still working as well. One more year till retirement for her! I joke with her that she is my sous chef, since she washes all my pans, cutters, icing tips.. while I decorate, and handles cleanup as well. I really couldn't ask for a better mom that helps me so much. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have learned any of this in the first place. She jokes from time to time that I am "stifling her creativity" by playing sous chef, because she doesn't get to bake fun stuff anymore. So, every so many weeks, mom has to have a project of her own, and I play sous chef for her, like in the good old days!! |
