There's a plastic mold used for this. I got mine at Elizabeth's Cake Supplies in Euless, TX. If she has them in stock (she did when I was there last month) she'll mail it to you. Her number is 817-267-6691, email is [email protected]. It wasn't very expensive; maybe $2-3, and it can be used as a chocolate mold, too.

Actually, I just read the business card and it says she has a website, but I've never looked at it. www.elizabethscakesupplies.com.

Oh, and while you're ordering from her, you might want to get a witches' hat nail from her ($1). It's a metal flower nail that has a cone at the top that you use as the base for a rose (instead of having to fight a wobbly icing base). You just add your petals around the cone and lift the flower off with scissors to dry. Anyway, I'd never seen those anywhere else and the other customers who were in her shop when I was there had fabulous things to say about it.

Try sending Socake a PM, she made a wonderful shoe recently and she has fantastic directions for it. She may be able to help out.

Yes to franjmc's advice ... I did a shoe and purse for my daughter's 21'st birthday (in my photos). Socake was SO kind to send me her instructions for the shoe.

Before I was wise enough to ask Socake for her tutorial, I started my process like I usually do -- blithely thinking I can do ANYthing! Haha. I literally went to daughter's closet and pulled out one of her shoes, and drew a paper pattern of the sole. Cut the fondant for that. Shaped the heel on a dowel. Set it all out to dry for seemingly forever. Then I couldn't figure out how she got the toe part to be so perfect ... so that's when I pm'd Socake.

She's brilliant ... just a rolled up cone of parchment paper holds that toe pointed and perfect and beautiful.

Anyway ... she has much more complete instructions, (not to mention being an incredible cake artist) and had I been smart enough to request them at the outset, I wouldn't have had the problems I did.

If you don't hear back from her in time, you can PM me and I'll tell you everything I know, at least. Good luck! And post a picture!

Thanks so much for your help. I am new to the forum, so it may take a bit to figure out how to pm. I am making the shoe for my daughters 23rd birthday. It isn't until the end of August. It may take me that long! Ksue I would love to see your pictures!

I did the same as ksue for the shoe in my shoe/purse photo.
I cut a template from a real shoe and than dried the arch on a rolling pin,for the top I stuffed tissue underneath to give it shape while it dried.I also shaped the heel seperately to also dry and than added that with royal icing at the end.
Keep in mind depending on what you use it could take several days to dry.
Good Luck!

ConnieSue -- There is a picture of the shoe and purse in my "photos". See that third tab from the left, right below my words here? It says "photos" ... press that and all of my cakes will come up; then you can just click on the the one that's pale pink/taupe looking.

The shoe is actually quite easy to do. But DO start it early because it needs quite a bit of time to dry hard.

Also - you can PM people by clicking on that button just left of the photos button.

And - I grew up and went through school with a girl named ConnieSue. She's a sweetheart.
