Has anyone ever baked a cake on the grill? It's finally gotten warm here and friends are looking forward to my cakes but the temperature and sun shine is drawing me outside. I also like the idea of using the fire that my husband is so good at making for more than just ribs! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Yes, I have..... I cooked a 9 x 13 cake on the grill once and it came out just great! I placed 4 empty tuna cans on the grill and then set my pan on top of the cans. It's probably something I would not do every day, but we had a storm and the lights were out for several days. We wanted cake so I cooked on the grill and it worked out just fine. Oh, by the way the grill was propane, but I don't see why it wouldn't work with coals the same way. |

My FIL made a cake once in a cast iron dutch oven with just a few hot coals under it and on the top so I don't see why a grill wouldn't work. He used a spice cake mix and a can of apple pie filling and it was one of the best things I have ever tasted!
Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

I'm a girl scout leader and we have often baked cakes in dutch ovens. They come out great!. Each hot charcoal is about 35 - 40 degrees so you'd need about 8-10 on the top and the bottom. |

I saw a show on the Food Network where they put a cake on the grill. |

MINE TOO!!!! But I love that look of confusion in their eyes! OH yay! I wanna try too! I saw a show where they did grilled pizzas. I tried it and it was a disaster, badly burnt crust. Probably woulda been better on gas not coals. |

Wow!!! I have heard of making pizza on the grill.... but cakes?!?!? You know I am going camping this weekend. So how do you do it? Just mix it all up and cover it with tin foil? |

now this I'm gonna have to try.... we're going to a family reunion this summer and each family is taking a night to do dinner. How funny would it be to bake a cake on the grill for dessert? I imagine indirect cooking is key - acts just like an oven! Will just have to lay low on the hickory smoke - hickory cake doesn't sound so appealing |
