I bought some high temperature coconut oil, and am going to try making frosting with it just to see if it can be done, but I don't think it's going to be soon enough to help you.

Here's are threads on what vegetable shortening (Crisco) is and where it can be purchased in AU:

Hey kncab,

Yep there are conflicting stories about copha, some people say it's disgusting other's say it's fine. I decided the only way to tell was to try it, copha is obviously edible, seeing we use it to make chocolate crackles etc.

I have made a Toba Garrett Buttercream recipe using copha in place of shortening, to date I have had a very good response, it has quite a mild flavour which I like due to the fact that it doesn't overpower the cake infact I find it's quite a complement and it can be made into chocolate buttercream by adding in some cocoa.

My suggestion would be to try a batch, and have some friends try it and see whether it works for you or not.

I haven't tried it myself, but Boonenati mentions solite as a shortening that she uses and swears by. She gets it from some decorating supply places in Melbourne.
