Yep I'm back in town for a bit from visitng my dad, HOLY its going on 9 weeks he's been in hospital now..but back to work I go while home!
I have a graduation cake due next week they want a dentist kinda theme. I suggested a tooth with a graduation hat .. She loved that idea but said I want it in a tier type style.. icon_confused.gif Great! While I silently grinded my teeth.. I explain to her I was thinking more along the lines of a sheet style and she said Oh no I have faith you can do a tier but she still wants the tooth with a graduation hat... lol OK HOW THE HECK WOULD anyone do this???? I tried telling her I think we arent agreeing here and she just pats my shoulder and says, " I have faith in my kids favorite adopted aunt!' icon_confused.gificon_confused.gif Hmm what do you say to that...lol I just said let me see what I can do.
Any ideas? I guess I could make some mini MMF teeth and put them around the edge or summin... lol I loved the idea of a tooth with graduation hat... but she is paying for this one... lol (Always a first for everything)
Great reason for me to break the nerves and dig into making a MMF cake...lol Ive been to chicken after my little experience making MMF a while back.. HAHAHA

So if you got any cool ideas let me know...Thanks and I so MISSED YOU GUYS! BIG HUG!

I'm thinking of a "Timmy the Tooth" character with a grad hat on top of a cake round... maybe two diffrent sized cake rounds using him as a topper. Maybe you could do a pink icing with teeth on both the bottom and top border of the cake (like an open mouth) would be fun. You could even just do all one color with a nice border and then place a toothbrush, floss, tube of toothpaste, etc. here and ther or in clusters to decorate it. I think if I did those it would look better in fondant or gumpaste with the details painted on. Hope that shed some light on the subject. Good luck.

someone here did a dental cake with two horseshoe cakes stacked and did MMF teeth. Maybe a quick search of the galleries would inspire you? That is a toughy!

I am glad to see you back. We missed you around here! How's your dad?

I would make a tooth out of 2-3" layers, torted, to put the hat on. Then, any additional tiers would have teeth drawn on them in black piping gel, all the way around. Perhaps a large red reverse shell border for lips.

It's just a thought.

ok...here's a sketch (to go along w/ the one I originally did for the horseshoe pan based tooth cake)
stack up enough square layers to get needed height. (i've drawn lines to suggest the layers) Tort if so desired.

Add cake boards and dowels as when doing standard stacked cake.

then FREEZE solid.

one frozen, carve to get tooth top shape...sort of four little hills at corners and valley in middle.

also gently taper sides to give slightly narrower base than top...make side slightly irregular like a real tooth.

Slather on the BS or fondant....note area at bottom (crosshatched) that is done in black BC to give the look of roots of tooth, without need to carve them too.

Make grad hat (fondant covered carboard). Add tassel.

I stuck on the face for the "cute" factor -- not really needed.

If want even more 'person-like" add arms, one holding diploma and other a "congrats" sign. tho' I'd probably just have those on the cake base.

There is a beautiful teefies cake on this site! Look under "Sweet Tooth". It is a sheet cake but you could put one big tooth on each tier. icon_biggrin.gif http://www.freedsbakery.com/other-las-vegas-cakes

Come on now, Helendelk! Think of the play on words--a tooth with a cap!

How about other dentistry things, a toothpaste tube with paste squeezed on the cake would be cute.

Prayers and good wishes still for your father as well.

why not just make a nice tiered cake and maybe even fondant toothbrushes around the borders.......toothpaste,etc......and then make a nice fondant tooth topper with a grad hat on it!

WOOOHOO Im pumped I just got a call now I have another cake order for a tooth.. but this one is a sheet cake... I was tickled pink when they called me and asked if I minded making an additional sheet cake for another student shaped like a tooth. They said now if not we can go buy one at reasors since it is short notice. I played it cool even tho I have a hundred things going on in my life right now.. I said let me check my calander oh well I do have a space open but would it be ok to deliver on Wed night instead of Thur.. No Prob!! WOOHOO!! I think this is just what I need to get my self back in the decorating mood.. With dad in the hospital niece in and out of hospital and traveling just kinda drained my creative mood... I'm so excited I know I sound like some silly school girl but no-one home except my animals to talk to since my hubby is away on business this week... LOL so you guys gotta deal with me... Warning I may come on a jibber jabber about nothing , lol just set me straight..

ok now where did Doug put that diagram of the sheet cake...LOL
What would we do without him.. Thanks again for sharing your talents with us Doug...

icon_eek.gificon_surprised.gificon_eek.gif ok now Im freaking.. The lady that wanted both cakes one for Thursday, the other for Saturday.. Well she just called me at 10:45 tonight and decided she wants both cakes by tomorrow evening.... Also wants 5 -3 tier pillar candles with imprinted logos.. Umm DH is out of town and she wants all this by tomorrow evening.. I own a candle company and DH pours most of the candles. I only do when need since I take care of the books and all that. Well I had a customer call me this morning wanting 6 pillar candles ASAP and wanted them by Friday. Well I couldn't say NO since this one of my best customers. I was like ok I've never actually poured the Pillar candles but I have watched him so I have faith I can do it.. I call DH and tell him he is like did you tell him sorry but you can't ... UHhh NO this is a customer like top 5 are you crazy NO I told him sure no problem. Just tell me what temp and how much this and that do I need.. He is like ok I'll call you and tell you next step when its time.. MEN so under-estimate us women sometimes.... I have watched him many many times pour those. I felt like the little engine that could..... I think I can I think I can.. Get all my molds out and do this and that and pour them. Everything is cool ... Dh calls youhave this done you have to do that.. I told him its under control so call me later..lol JUST TO GET HIM OFF THE PHONE!!! Well ok I know all the steps in my sleep from watching him. We hand pour and mix all of our products and pillars are the fun ones to pour...lol BUT I DID IT!!! and they actually almost looked better than his last batch.. HAHAHA anyway got that order packaged up and got to UPS 5 minutes before close.. WHEW ! Felt like dancing I did it I did it! So ok now she wants more pillars that have 3 layers in each one and 2 cakes by tomorrow night latest Thursday morning. Got 2 rounds in the oven right now just poured my second layer on the candles HOPE and Pray the colors don't mix.. Since it is red, white and red. Crossing my fingers and toes. Going to be interesting to see if I get all this done. Did I mention I have only done 1 imprinted candle...HAHAHA
At least Im laughing about it all. I had to take a break so you see where I am. DId I mention I also have a yard sale scheduled for Thurs and Fri that I already put in paper... ROTFL Luckily I already had everything priced this weekend. FUN FUN!
Dr called me on my Dad today and well the news wasnt good..
The cultures came back and he still has the endocordiits in his heart. The antibiotics didnt kill the infection. SO they have to do another series of antibiotics for 4 more weeks before they can even think about going in and repairing his heart.. UGH!!

OH my cake dinger gotta go.. Will she do it or not????
