I made the No fail Cookie recipe for the first time yesterday.
Was it just my dough or is the dough very dry.
I had to dump some on the parchment paper and kind of knead it together before I rolled it out.
I rolled out and baked the cookies thay came out great, thye held their shape and taste very good. Is the the norm?
I was thinking about adding about a tablespoon of water to the recipe next time, but I was afraid the cookies would spread out too much.
Has anybody tried this?
I haven't decorated them yet I packed them into ziplock baggies and put them into the freezer until I have time to decorate them.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Marie
When I make this recipe it takes a while to incorporate all the flour.I have to knead mine a bit also!!
thank you kiddiekakes.
I was worried that I messed up the recipe or something.
I liked the fact that they held their sahape very well.
I made bunny heads and eggs for Easter cookies.
Are you mixing it by hand or in a mixer? I use a KA and I used to have that problem - it didn't really come together and was a littel "crumbly" but baked great and worked fine after kneading a little and rolling out.
Then I tried keeping it in the mixer a little longer (I'm sure I rad that tip here somewhere) - until it comes together in kind of a ball and the sides of my mixing bowl are clean (maybe 1-2 minutes?). That's made SUCH a differnce! No more kneading and I just plop it out of the mixing bowl and roll it out.
Hi,
I've had a similar problem where the dough was like bread crumbs. I just added about a tablespoon of milk and that worked well.
I made some again yesterday in my kitchen aid. I was thinking after adding the last of the flour that people must stop at that point because it's pretty crumbly at that point(I've seen this complaint many times here). I let the mixer form it into the ball that bonniebakes mentioned and it was fine. I've made the recipe many times and never have a problem with crumbling dough.

I made a batch last night as well, and had the same experience.
I usually just dump all the flour in, cover it with a damp towel to keep the flour from flying out, and let it mix for a while without looking, LOL!
I kept an eye on it this time, and it did get very crumbly at first, but then as it continued to mix, it came together into a perfect dough that I could just grab a clump of and roll out easily.
If you're doing it with a KA, just let it mix until the dough comes together (I always mix on speed 1 after I put the flour in).
hth!
Laura.
