Looking for hi-ratio shortening in Canada preferably Ontario. Anyone seen it or know where to buy it?
I know it is not the same as Crisco and I don't know other brand names other than Sweetex.

TIA
Jane

The bulk barn here carries it. There are 3 bulk barn in Ottawa, they have it in the section with the pie fillings/wet ingredients.

You can also try Bakemark...they probably have a web site... and Bridge Brand fod delivery company also has a very good bulk shortening...I don't know if it's high ratio, but it doesn't coat your mouth like crisco does...yucky

Thanks very much!! I went to Bulk Barn this evening and it was all portioned out in tubs clearly marked as high ratio shortening so I bought some to try out when I make icing.

jane, please let me know how you like it. after all the good things i heard about it, i found that it had a little oily after taste. maybe it was just my taste buds acting up, but i would love to hear your opinion. thanks *j

Has anyone found a retail source for high ratio besides Bulk Barn? Unfortunately, anything I buy at BB isn't considered nut-free by schools because of the possibility of cross-contamination. I can see their point with certain items, especially the shortening since it's kept right beside the peanut and almond butters, and was hoping to find an alternative. As I'm only a hobby baker at this point, I'd rather not have to order 50 lbs. at a time...

Thank you!
Susan
