for me personally I can only do one wedding cake per day. That is just me as I am stressed enough without having to worry about 2 of them. And it would be me or the cake maker that delivers the wedding cake. That is what I do. Hope it all works out for you. |

I will book 3 wedding cakes for a weekend at the most! but I won't except any other cake orders for that week, and the reception times have to be about 3 hours apart. |

I've done 3 large wedding cakes in one day a couple of times.
Never again, because invariably, I always had a problem (albeit small problem) with one of the deliveries/set ups.
2 in one day,or 3 in one weekend is the most I will accept now. The money may be nice, but the stress and the lost sleep and the problems are not. I'm only one person! |

I have two fuction halls that I make wedding cakes for. During my busy season I make an average of 6 per weekend. However, the designs are usually picked from the 16 "package" designs, but I do all the baking and prepping myself.
I am in the process of expanding my home bakery and hiring two part time employees. I just picked up two more function halls to care for and am expanding into gourmet dessert cakes to hopefully sell wholesale to the restaurants, now that I have help.
My ultimate dream is to only do high end designed wedding cakes and I know that I would only be able to make 1 or 2 a weekend then. I just need to get my employees up to speed! |

Right now I can max out at 3 wedding-cakes/caterings per day (so I guess that means a potential of 6 on a weekend?). I've done 3 in one day before, but it all depends on the size of the event and the logistics. I have 3 weddings on 7/7/07, but I've had to turn down bookings for another date in which I only have one booked ..... that one is a really big wedding and it's about 75 minutes away. I have a couple of crews that I can assign events to, but I like to be able to be close enough to run over to help them if they need it. |

I do 2 on a day, 3 on a weekend. But it really depends on the size of the wedding. Usually if I do 2, it is for 2 smaller weddings. |

I usually have a combo of 20 elaborate and easy birthday cakes on the weekend. During the week who knows sometimes there is just a couple a day and then I have been slammed?
The most Weddings were 7 & 10 the norm is 4 - 6 during the busy months.
My daughter or I deliver and I am going to have someone deliver on the really busy days.
I am delivering cakes up to 100 miles away and it is not worth me taking the cake... I can pay someone $10 hour to deliver and in that same hour I can stay at the shop and produce a couple hundred dollars in cake.

You are right! I'm beginning to feel the same way about delivering everything myself. However, how did you get over letting someone else do it! Were you nervous they would drop the cake, or not set it up right?! It's seems $10.00 an hour is the going rate for hired help. I'm in Massachusetts and that is what I just hired 2 part timers for. |

My hubby is the one who pointed this out to me. He said, "you think you're saving money by doing it yourself. You're the most expensive part of this operation!" We figured my time is billable at $100+ per hour, so for me to spend 6 hours at a wedding is "costing" me $600, but I can hire 3 people to work 6 hours each at $10/hour and it costs me $180. No brainer there! |

There are some great delivery boxes for cakes.
Try Decopac and Bakerycraft for wedding cake delivery cartons and they also can be reused. |

you need to find someone with confidence and respect for the cake. haha. I wouldn't trust just anyone with my cake.
Also I have very well supported tiered cakes.

Do you pay them mileage as well? Do they use their own vehicle, yours, or a company van? I know I will be dealing with liability issues when I open up to someone else delivering the cakes, won't I? |

A lady in my hometown will do 6 weddings in a day from her home bakery. She does have employees though. I am definitely going to stick to one wedding when I start out. Oh and someone mentioned 7/7/07. My son is getting married that day. At first we were a little irritated with the bride to be because she was booking everything 18 months out but now I am glad she did!!! We would have been in trouble if we had waited too long after that.

7-7-07.....I've booked 3 on that date and turned down 4.
Warning: Next year, 8/8/08 falls on a Friday. I've already gotten inquiries for this one! |
