Sorry... Start with the pic at the bottom and work your way up to see this process....
Okay, for those interested, I took pics of this procedure I used to make my daughter's cake this past weekend. I am also posting the soaking mehtod for the cake separately...
I used for the can a Chocolate Butter Fudge Cake mix and added 1 box of instant chocolate pudding and one more egg to make the batter thicker.
Again, thanks for the info. I know the technique, but have not tried it yet. Great to see pics!
do you also prepare the souppans like a normal pan, so spray and flour?
great idea would have to try it sometime
looks amazing - is there a pic of the finished cake?
Yes, I already posted the cake in the gallery and also under the "General" Forum. I will give you a link.

Yes, I used "Bakers Joy" (non-stick spray that has flour in it), but I am sure you can use pan grease or any other greasing method!
Wow, checked out your picture. Very nice! Great Job! Fantastic! I want to be like you when I grow up!!

SweetCaramel: You are too sweet!!!!
Thanks!
Lining the can with baking paper helps especially if the cake gets "caught" on the can ribbing or the lip at the top. {extend the paper taller than the can}
thanks for the info I am going to try and attemp this at the end of the month. I want to make my son a batman cahe so I am going to use a can as his neck. with a ball pan for his head
Thanks for reposting - I keep giving out the original URL, because people keep asking about it...
thanx for the great tip!!! i am attempting a turkey cake this weekend and did'nt know what i was going to use for the neck....now i know!!!!
sorry but just wondering about something...
what about the lead! this cans dont have it?
i not sure but i think they are not lead free that is why it is important once open to take whatever was in the can and put it in a safe bowl or something?
what about that???????
Lead solder was outlawed in food cans back in the 70s.
So, if it HAD food in it, it should be food safe. The paint on the outside of the cans can be burnt off before using in the oven. WARNING: it can give off quite a smell!
I've used the cans before, well actually just once, and I don't know anything about the lead.
I had used the contents already and washed it real good and let it dry very well before using...
Everything was fine.
i just baked cakes in the cans last night...worked out really great!!!! i just peeled off the label, gave them a good wash...and then baked away...they turned out awesome...and no smell!!!
So glad 7yyrt helped me find this thread! I did everything you did Maria. I'm going to try again tonight. I think I filled my cans up too high. I'm going to TRY to attempt the candle cakes. If anyone can help me find the pic I'd appreciate it. I saw a candle cake on CC before but can't find it now. Thanks!

Thanks ya'll! MrsAB & 7yyrt found the pics for me!! Going to try & bake them again tonight after I get some Baker's Joy to grease the cans. It's hard using your fingers. I'm decorating them Christmasy~ Here are the pics MrsAB & 7yyrt found...

marialovescake, your talent always amazes me and you are so thoughtful in helping us, thank you so much!!
Just wanted to let ya'll know that I had success with the cans today! I used pound cake this time, filled the cans 1/2 full again. I used parchment paper on the bottom of the cans. I cut my hand trying to grease them... found an un-used foam painting brush in my kitchen drawers so I put some cake release on it & used that instead of my fingers! Worked like a charm! I'm not decorating the candles just yet so I wrapped the cakes in saran wrap & froze them till I'm ready to decorate. Thanks for all the help!
Was wondering whether anyone has cooked more than one can in the oven at a time and how many would you do, what temperature and how long?
