Sorry... icon_lol.gif Start with the pic at the bottom and work your way up to see this process.... icon_biggrin.gif

Okay, for those interested, I took pics of this procedure I used to make my daughter's cake this past weekend. I am also posting the soaking mehtod for the cake separately...

I used for the can a Chocolate Butter Fudge Cake mix and added 1 box of instant chocolate pudding and one more egg to make the batter thicker.

Yes, I used "Bakers Joy" (non-stick spray that has flour in it), but I am sure you can use pan grease or any other greasing method!

Lining the can with baking paper helps especially if the cake gets "caught" on the can ribbing or the lip at the top. {extend the paper taller than the can}

sorry but just wondering about something...
what about the lead! this cans dont have it?
i not sure but i think they are not lead free that is why it is important once open to take whatever was in the can and put it in a safe bowl or something?
what about that??????? icon_eek.gif

Lead solder was outlawed in food cans back in the 70s.
So, if it HAD food in it, it should be food safe. The paint on the outside of the cans can be burnt off before using in the oven. WARNING: it can give off quite a smell!

I've used the cans before, well actually just once, and I don't know anything about the lead.

I had used the contents already and washed it real good and let it dry very well before using...

Everything was fine.

So glad 7yyrt helped me find this thread! I did everything you did Maria. I'm going to try again tonight. I think I filled my cans up too high. I'm going to TRY to attempt the candle cakes. If anyone can help me find the pic I'd appreciate it. I saw a candle cake on CC before but can't find it now. Thanks!

Here is a pic. I did of a toesock, using the cans, just please don't laugh at the toes icon_redface.gif they look more like jellybeans than toes. icon_cry.gif

Just wanted to let ya'll know that I had success with the cans today! I used pound cake this time, filled the cans 1/2 full again. I used parchment paper on the bottom of the cans. I cut my hand trying to grease them... found an un-used foam painting brush in my kitchen drawers so I put some cake release on it & used that instead of my fingers! Worked like a charm! I'm not decorating the candles just yet so I wrapped the cakes in saran wrap & froze them till I'm ready to decorate. Thanks for all the help!
