Hi,

I know that some of these questions may have been asked before, but I have had no luck finding the posts. My airbrush machine arrived yesterday. Before I try it out this weekend I have a few questions that I hope you can all help me with.

Here is the airbrush that I have http://cgi.ebay.com/CAKE-DECORATING-AIRBRUSH-KIT-SET-Food-Color-Compressor_W0QQitemZ220597339026QQcategoryZ46281QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3907.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%252BDDSIC%26otn%3D8%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8890253202856853280

I have purchased Lucks airbrush colors and I also have some Americolor gels that came with the airbrush.

1. The Lucks color bottles are ready to use with the airbrush. The AmeriColor gels seem too thick to use with airbrush. Do I have to add liquid to use them? Vodka?

2.) Can I use luster dust in my airbrush? If yes, How many parts dust and liquid do I mix?

3.) Are there any color guide charts out there for airbrushing?

Thank you all very much in advance for your help. Any tips and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for asking these questions! I recently bought the same exact airbrush! Looking forward to the answers. I tried diluting wilton brown food gel with vodka and I could hardly see the color on the cake. Maybe I mixed it too thin but I was nervous about it being too thick and clogging my pen which I had read could be an issue. Good Luck and have fun with your new toy! icon_smile.gif

Don't use Americolor gels in your airbrush. Use only liquid colors made for an airbrush. Does it say in your instructions you can use them? Strange.... I've never heard of diluting them for an airbrush.

Thanks Jen icon_smile.gif I was confused and thought that I had received the gels. I just checked again and it says that it's AmeriColor Airbrush colors. It's just that I find them thicker than the Lucks Airbrush colors. icon_smile.gif

My Americolor airbrush colors are very watery. Much thinner than my Americolor gels.

I read a post here on cc a while back where people were diluting their gels to use in the airbrush if they were out of a reg. airbrush color. Like I said though....it didn't work that great. When I tried, it was because I needed a brown and the only colors that I had were the ones I had just gotten with my airbrush which were red, yellow and either blue or green. Anyway...guess it's not a good idea. If anyone has tried it with success...please share your thoughts and or technique.

Thank you all very much for all your help. I am going to give this a try this weekend. I found this on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....ature=fvwp It's not for food airbrushing, but it covers the basics of cleaning, changing colors and taking it apart. *I would not use windex* I was thinking more in the lines of warm water and a tiny amount of soap to clean it. Plain water in between color change?
