I did a 3D Raggedy Ann and Andy cookie last year (the ones in my photos), and my husband gave them to his secretary because she was getting married that week. She refused to eat them, and has kept them on her dresser ever since. I was a bit surprised when my husband came home from work on Friday with Raggedy Ann in four separate pieces. His secretary was begging him to have me repair her. She didn't want a new cookie...it had to be the original. So I just finished piecing her back together, and she doesn't look half bad!

I had to laugh, as it was a year-old cookie that still had a lot of sentimental value to this person. Amazing!

I had to go look at the pic. I can't blame her for wanting it fixed.

When are you giving cookie decorating classes? Sign me up!

I'm actually going to be teaching a 3 hour class thru our local community college this spring. I'm a bit nervous about it.

If I lived in the midwest I would SO BE THERE!! Your cookies ROCK!

Can I ask - what kind of icing do you use? I had some issues with my icing this weekend and I want to start using something else.

Omaha, Nebraska. One class will be on a Monday night, and one class will be on a Tuesday night. Each are 3 hours, and the theme of the cookies will be different for each night. (They liked the Wizard of Oz cookies, so that is definitely going to be one of the nights.) I taught a class this fall, and picked up quite a few pointers on what to do (and not do!). I'm still nervous about how the classes will turn out....

Thank you! Here's the icing I use:

4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
4 tablespoons corn syrup
4 tablespoons skimmilk (or water, or other type milk)
1/2 tsp. clear vanilla or almond extract
20 drops brite white food color (I use Americolor)

Mix together everything except the brite white until it is well combined. Add the brite white and mix well. Adjust your consistency to get it to be that of white school glue. For thicker icing, add more powdered sugar. For thinner icing, add more corn syrup. Divide and color. For outlining consistency, add more powdered sugar until it reaches the consistency of penut butter. (I combine all my leftover icing, then add the black and more sugar).

I know, aren't people weird?? I've made cookies for events and functions and such and had people several months later inform me that they still have their cookie from that event! icon_eek.gif I guess they thought it was a souvenier! icon_rolleyes.gif

I told her at her wedding party (not a reception...she had a group of people to a restaurant for pizza) that I'd be happy to make her more, but she insisted even back then that she only wanted the original. My husband said she was thrilled when he brought her the repaired cookie yesterday.

I don't have any problem eating the cookie! It was made to be eaten!

I don't think she was weird, I think that is the highest compliment to you!
She cherished it that much! Kudo's to you for making something so special for her.

Aside from that, your cookies ARE fantastic!!

Don't laugh but I still have cookies from my bridal shower (the cake type) & a Christening gown from my daughter's Christening. They're both wrapped in the plastic bags they came in but I have personally carried these two items in a box whenever the Army moves us, including the move to and from Hawaii. I think it is a sweet story though.
If I was closer, I would take your classes too!

I just think it's an odd behaviour since it's food which translates to perishable/rodent attracters. But hey, to each is own. I will confess I STILL have the original Gilda cookie I made for Gilda's club several years ago! icon_eek.gif (Sealed in a bag of course) icon_rolleyes.gif Of course I use that for reference on making them again (sort of a lifesize template.) But it has no sentimental meaning to me.

Too pretty to eat! Yeah, I would say that was a nice compliment. Sweet story.
