I definitely need to find an accountant to help get my business finances set up correctly, but I was wondering if any of you can help me answer this question.

If I bake items in a commercial kitchen and deliver them directly to the customer, do I need to collect sales tax?

I got a very confusing answer from the Department of Revenue. I was told that the sales would be exempt from state tax because of the Food Stamps Act but not from local tax, but the state would collect all taxes and distribute to the local tax authorities.

Does anyone have any insight into this?

That's correct. Ga sales tax is 4%. In Chatham county where my shop is, the county has an additional 3% sales tax. So we charge 3% tax on our cakes.

The taxes are filed with the GA. Dept. of Revenue every month.
