What could I use for the tea pot spout? I am guessing gumpaste or fondant would be too heavy and rip the cake. Should I carve it out of styrofoam and cover it with fondant? There are so many cute ones made but the spout scares me and seems to be working against gravity. Any experience?

what about RKT covered in fondant and held in place with an inner skewer into the cake?

How about rice krispie treat? Super light, just stick a skewer into it, and when it's nice and set, just a thin covering of fondant, and you're all set. Works like a charm. HTH!

I have only ever used gumpaste or 50/50 for mine, never have had a problem with it. (I have made about 15 of them over the last 4 years) The important thing is when attaching them - make sure the toothpicks go into the cake and not the filling! Another thing is to not make them too BIG - I have seen many of them and the spout is riduculously big in comparison to the size of the teapot.
