I've seen alot of the Kit Kat cakes (candy barrels) on here and I just love them! I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to make one? Do you just make a regular 8" round and stick the Kit Kats to the side? Thanks. |

That's how I do it. I make a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and then stick the kitkats in the icing on the side. It is a very easy cake to make...no need to worry about how smooth your icing is! |

There's a picture of mine in my photos, it was so easy and got such rave reviews, I have made them on several occasions now. I use 1 full 2 in layer, torted and filled, then iced the outside and the kit kats were the perfect height to just come up around the edge and "hold the candy".
Also I don't put gobs and gobs of candy on there, I did a layer of M&M's then sprinkled on another to fill in spaces and then I used mini m&m's to fill in any space still remaining. I am also a little obsessive compulsive and I tried to have the logo's facing down, but that's just me.
Tie a ribbon around the whole thing and pipe a top and bottom border to finish (1 more thing I use BetterCream on these, it's a whipped cream type frosting and cuts the crazy sweetness of candy on buttercream.
Good Luck and have fun! Andrea

I just did an 8" kitkat cake and it took 10 regular size kitkats (4 sticks to a bar) to go around the whole thing. If you are selling this kind of cake make sure to cover the candy costs...they can make the costs high. I also do not pour a whole bag of m&m's or reeses on the top...just enough to cover it. |

Thanks for the info. Wento the store and forgot to buy the kit kats! Now I've got a note written for tomorrow. I'll either do an 8" or a 6". May go with 8. Thinking of doing the halloween m&ms with a halloween ribbon. |

Thanks for the tips! So do I need a 2 layer 8 inch if I'm not torting? Also do you break apart the Kit Kats individually?
andpotts- Your cake looks so yummy. I would love to know how you did the cookie layer.
Thanks again! My daughter wants one of these cakes for her birthday in 2 weeks and I really hope to make a nice one! |

I've done a similar one with pirouette cookies. I just iced it in my normal BC placed the pirouettes, and I put a large ribbon around it to ensure they would stay attached. |

I don't know why but the ocd comment about liking the m&m logos face down made me giggle - I just love the way cake decorating has made me more aware of "the little details" I also want to do a reeses pieces cake for Halloween -how pretty and perfect for Halloween is that:) |
