I am looking to buy a printer for producing edible cake images. Can anyone give me some informed advice on what printer to get and the best place to get it.
i bought a cannon on ebay, but i been so busy i haven't had time to set it up...only been sitting here 3 months...lol
I also bought a Canon printer. I love it!! It works great and I really enjoy doing edible images. You can buy these printers on E-bay and I am sure other places. I think there are only a few printers that work with the edible ink. Good luck!!
Well, I did it..ordered a Canon IP3000 over e-bay. Praying that it is a good deal! Paid through paypal so have a bit more confidence but will hold off celebrating until I have the printer here and get a chance to use it! Wish me luck !! My daughter and I are trying to start a good business and this will give us a kick!
I have an Epson 3800 printer scanner and I LOVE IT!!!! Use it all the time. Order my frosting sheets and ink from Kopy Kake.
The North San Diego Cake Club website has a post on photo edible printers. It goes over models (Cannon/Epson), inks, sheets, costs, where to get them, etc.

They also have a pretty good list of online tutorials in their HOW TO section.

after going through three print heads and cleaning carts, my printer is up in my attic (with another clogged printer head that is uncleanable) I now order all my prints from someone else, at cheaper the price. Unless you use your printer every single day, its not worth it. I litterly would soak my print head clean after every use and store it EMPTY. These edible inks just clog up too easily again if not used on a daily basis.
i saw on another post that ink from this place stopped the clog problem with the canon printers...
i ordered some from them this week....i hope it helps.

Speaking of clogged printer heads, I really don't recommend you buy a edible printer on ebay especially is it's used, bad experience. I bought one that came with a scanner for a good deal. When it arrived I tried to get it to work, well after a few hours nothing. I called Bakery Crafts and they told that the printer head needed to be replaced ($70) and that I needed to buy the ink ($40) seperately, oh.....and by the way if you don't have a Tax Id # you can't order it, only we(BC) can sell it to you. I searched online to try to buy these things and guess what no one sells these items anymore. And the seller on ebay ad was like this; Used in good condition Edible printer used only a few times, works great, comes with 1/2 cartridge and 25 edible sheets for $70. Who wasn't gonna jump on that? So be careful now I'd rather pay a bit more and get something new and no problems.
I guess I better knock on wood when I say this..............I have never had a clogged cartridge. Ever! I bought my printer scanner directly from Epson after researching the Kopy Kake site for compatible models. Order all my ink and sheets from them with no problem. I didn't have to have a tax id# when I started ordering from them. Their customer service is excellent.
Of course I use my printer at least once a week if not more. Sorry you had such a time of it
could you tell me the exact model # of the Epson printer you purchased?
sounds like you found the golden egg!
We use an epson too, and haven't had too many problems, and the ones we have had have been software related.
Clogged heads are remedied pretty easily by soaking the printer by soaking them in VODKA..tee hee!

two questions:
1. Do you have to unplug it, before soaking the printer in vodka?
2. Am i still able to drink the vodka after the soaking?
kidding.
