Where's the pic or did I miss something?
Congrats to you!!!! 1st place and People's choice, that is great! I'm sorry I couldn't be there to see it all. Next time we all do have to meet and at least say hi.
First place last year was the woman who had her husband helping (can't remember her name) right? She won people's choice too? My memory is foggy. I voted for the japanese themed one. (CCer) |

Oscar was one giant humongous pain in the neck!
I had a statue from the party store and wanted to make a mold
First I tried that flexible mold stuff from michael's..no go. then I tried gumpaste to make a mold...no go. Then my da dhelped me with paster of paris...and that worked after I sanded and sanded and sanded the gumpaste I put in.
Plus I made 2 in case one broke....and a last ditch gumpaste star to make sure I reached the height.
Then I painted with gold highlighter luster dust stuff. |

Last year's winner was Kathy Gibson. She was sitting to the right of the door as you walked into the room. She mainly worked alone, however her sister was there to help her. Her cake was a pale blue color and had an arrangement of flowers on top, with blue birds made out of fondant on another layer. |

Yes, I was sitting with her sister last year, who was so nice. Kathy won the Intermediate group(she surely should've been in the advanced!), the advanced was the husband/wife team I think. I felt so bad for her last year because people were bumping her table/cake.
Her flowers/birds were so nice! What did she do this year? |

Yeah, people were walking all behind us too and in front. I could handle the front, but the back really bothered me for some reason. I think because it felt like they got too close. Plus I had stuff on the floor. A 6ft table is not large enough for 2 people and a 3 ft cake. And I even asked to pull an unused one over.
I think I will send polite comments...just so she can grow and expand. I really did think it was fun though. Scary, but fun.

Thanks Ironbaker! I had forgotten about Kathy being in the Intermediate group last year. I was also sitting close to her sister.
It's kind of hard to describe what she did this year. She, nor her sister, were overly impressed with the way it turned out. She told me that she had a hard time coming up with something for this year's theme.
She also told me that a cake that she did will be featured on Wilton's site within a couple of weeks. Not sure, but I think she won a contest on there.
Now that you reminded me about the husband and wife team, I'm thinking they were there this year, but can't remember if they won.
Acookieobsession - Do you remember if the couple across from you, that made the mauve colored cake, placed this year? |

I am not sure if the mauve cake placed this year. I was holding my breath....
I can ask my dh when he gets home he will remember.
I know the girl with the reel cake beside me won something in intermediate and the girls int he back with the column in the middle won intermediate.

Thanks for posting that article link. Glad to see Zoe won, I want to see what she did. She's sweet and works at Nick Lodge's store.
Kathy did a nice job on her cake for the Wilton contest. |
