My advice is to just trust in karma.
I would definitely discontinue selling to this person. But, thats all I would do. A letter or any correspondence could get into the wrong hands and cause more of a problem.
I know its extremely irritating that someone would have the nerve to take the credit for your product. As hard as it may be, you should just sit back and let what goes around come around. It will absolutely come back to bite her in the 'you know what' and you will be the one that comes out on top. People will figure her out. |

This thread makes me think about when I was working at a local grocery store deli and and we had fried chicken on sale for 3.99 for an 8 piece box.
A lady came in and had us put two 8 pieces in an aluminum pan and cover it with foil to take to a function. About 20 minutes later, another lady came in with a beautiful platter and had us arrange 32 pieces on it. I asked her where she was headed, and it was the SAME FUNCTION.
I just died laughing at the thought that both of their "homemade" fried chicken would taste exactly the same. |

Y'all are great! Thanks for all of your replies and support. I already saw her this morning, but I was on the phone when she walked in. Now she's gone for the week. I am going to say something, but in a joking manner so that we can all laugh about it. I will fill more orders for her, but never again without my sticker on it. Now I have to design a sticker
As for the opinion that a couple of you expressed about once she has received the goods she can do what she wants with them including saying that she made them.....I do not agree. If she had asked me to do it for her I would have said no. If I am responsible for the product and it being a safe, legally made, delicious product, then I should get the credit for the quality of the product. Now, if she sold food products legally and requested that I fill an order for her to sell, then I would consider it, but not one of my own recipes.
This has become a fun thread! I love the joke about the church lady....hillarious!!! I know that it's not the end of the world, but I was really hoping for some referrals off of this job. I'm in no way devastated, just shocked at her gall! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR REPLIES!!! |

People do things like that all the time. I do not agree with it, she should not have lied and stated that she made them herself. You shouldn't take credit for someone else's work without permission of course. Honesty is the best policy in my book. All my cakes I make from mixes except for a select few, but my icing is homemade and is my very own recipe. I do not share it with anyone at all. My husband doesn't even know how to make it. I have a saying that I firmly believe in and it is "give a person enough rope and they will hang themselves." What goes around, comes around and this will definitly be back to bite her when she least expects it. Happy baking and God Bless!! |

Brandibakes that is such a great joke!!
Derby, I think the next time she asks you for an order your reply should be " But why??? You did such a great job last time!" (In your most sarcastic tone and with the widest most innocent eyes you can manage!!)

This is one of those times I'd have to just look at her and smile that all knowing smile of knowing that she was caught telling her lie. I would not say anything to her over this, she knows she was caught in front of everyone. I would call my friend that was at the function and find out who the builder was and make him a Thank You basket of your cookies with your newly designed stickers on them. The builder will know and tell everyone they were your cookies once they taste them.
As far as a next order goes, you'll just have to wait and see if she has the nerve to call you again and place an order. You can deceide from your schedule if you are able or willing to handle another order for her. |

Don't say anything to her.
Take some more cookies to the builder with a little personal note that you heard they were enjoyed by everyone and just wanted to Thank him. That way,he knows she lied, therefore looking a fool, yet the builder doesn't know that you know.It all looks innocent.lol.
And while I'm sure alot of people do pass bakery items off as their own,I think its not only tacky its completely unprofessional.Especially by someone( a realtor)that knows what it is like to depend on word of mouth for new business. If she sold your house in two days wouldn't she want you to tell everyone how great she was instead of saying you sold it yourself.
What a wank.lol

Well I have done the whole playing it off as mine...but it was with my own dad. We both bake and would joke around (we arebig B.S.ers) and say "if its good, I made it, if its not my dad/daughter made it" But we would always immediately tell the truth as to who thebaker on that item was.
As for the teller of tall tales... it will come back to bite her in the butt. Like they say what goes around comes around. Likewhenmy dad started selling his baked goods we had one lady I used to work with pawn them off as her own at an office party. I was on theother sideof the room to witness it. Luckily by the time they got down the the tray there was a seal that said Cookies by Dan with his phone number. She got questioned got caught in her lie. Especially when one of the girls that sat next to me at work had a cookie and knew they were just like the ones she had an hour earlier from me. Now a label, seal, business card, sticker ,ribbon or whatever i can use goes on my baked goods. That lady never got another cookie out of us and I got the "sweetest" revenge.
Dont let her take the credit. Find out who the builder is and send them a few as a thankyou. |

I just had to add my 2 cents worth. I think it is unscrupulous to take someone's work and claim it as your own. Also, you say this is a colleague? I would be highly suspicious of any business dealings with her. It speaks volumes about her character and ethics. She bought them (like buying anything you own it) but not the right to say she created them.
I'd like to believe she'll get what she deserves but I'm still waiting on my pay back for the chef that took credit for my fondant figures. He was a very prominent chef at a good resturant and entered a high profile gingerbread contest here. Won ($1000) 1st place, the deal was he was to put my card in front of the display with his, he didn't. Took all the credit and even told me the judges loved the detailing of the figures (MY figures) but only after I confronted him about why he didn't tell me he won! Then he put the picture of this winning entry on all his Xmas cards and had it in the paper and everything! Sorry, guess I'm still bitter
It sounds like you'll be able to handle this fine from your last post. I'm sure you'll still get lots of order for those special cookies! |

Ok maybe I'm just really mean but I dont think you all want to know what I would do to her. I wouldnt say anything to her and would act like I didnt know what she did. Then I would let her order again and would buy those clear labels and but them in my bags and let her say they were hers and get busted. Or I would have a friend call her and ask her if she would make some for them. I would have them say how it is the best they have ever had and they have a family member who works for Nabisko or tollhouse and they told them about the cookies and they have become interested in her product. She would feel stupid because she would not know what to do. Then I would let her sweat it out. Depending on how she acted after that I would have someone call acting like they are from one of those famous cookies companies and would like to buy her recipe. I would love to hear what she says.
